The 90-person party entered the outdoor ceremony site through an iron gate strewn with fuchsia orchids. With a romantic waterfall as a backdrop, chairs for the ceremony were set upon a grassy lawn and adorned with garden roses, calla lilies, and orchids in varying shades of pink.

Tamara and Eric’s reception was held at a rustic mountain cabin with a wooden deck outside and a real tree planted right in the middle of the deck. Twinkling lights were wrapped around the tree, which Tamara says gave the setting “an intimate fairy-tale feeling,” and tiny antique lanterns dangled from a few of the branches.

Tamara & Eric in Malibu, CA

Tamara and Eric saw their vision of a bright tropical-theme affair—inspired by her childhood spent in California and Hawaii—come to life at a picturesque ranch tucked away in the Santa Monica Mountains. The Bride Tamara Fillhart The Groom Eric Smith The Date August 8 “It is the story of a missing ring, a beautiful day in Santa Barbara, and our living room couch,” 31-year-old Tamara says of her engagement to Eric, 28. The couple, who met and work (in advertising sales) in New York City, took a trip to Santa Barbara for a friend’s wedding, and after several romantic cliff walks, Tamara thought to herself that it would be the perfect place for a proposal. Eric seemed to agree and said, “If I had a ring, this would be the day.” After returning to New York, Eric came home one day to find Tamara sitting on the couple’s couch. He flicked off the television, told her to imagine they were back on the cliffs, and then presented her with the ring that was missing the first time around.
