Once everyone arrived, the ceremony took place in Greystone’s formal garden. The area was decorated with parasols from Chinatown and flowers in shades of amber, coral, and apricot. Wendy and John exchanged vows in a formal garden perched above Greystone Mansion, where guests enjoyed panoramic views of Los Angeles.

As music business professionals, the couple could not throw a party without live music, so local band Very Be Careful heated up the atmosphere with vallenato, a form of Afro-Caribbean, rhythm-based music originating in the northern coastal region of Colombia.

Toward the end of the reception, guests enjoyed Mexican spiced coffee and croquembouche -- a traditional French wedding cake made of cream puffs and caramelized sugar -- from La Conversation, the West Hollywood cafe where John dines daily.

A DJ played Afro-Cuban selections from the Buena Vista Social Club, and the couple’s first dance was to “Boliviana” by Ibrahim Ferrer.

Often participants want to forget a blind date. It was just the opposite for Wendy and John. When mutual friends set them up to go out to Hollywood bar Daddy’s Lounge, they had a wonderful time together -- and an enterprising Polaroid photographer was there to capture the moment. “The bartender wound up buying the photo for us,” Wendy says, “so we have a wonderful memento from that evening.” Wendy and John moved in together just six months later. "It's not something I would ordinarily want to do," she explains, "but I thought it sounded fun in a campy way." After a good deal of coaxing, John convinced her to come home. When she arrived, he was on bended knee, with a ring in hand.
