Love the idea of a cruise, but worried it may be too much ship and not enough shore-explore for you? Cruiselines, such as Princess, Celebrity, and Royal Caribbean are making the game-changing move of adding overnight-dockings to their itineraries, so you can really dive into a destination without rushing back for the dinner bell (or an end of day departure horn). Extra time in romantic ports like Bermuda, Paris, and Cabo San Lucas gives you the chance to check out nightlife too. Some ships are going further with multi-day shore excursions: Partway through the cruise, passengers take guided tours that include a night or two on land (like Celebrity’s jaunt to Madrid or Royal Caribbean’s Mayan immersion in Guatemala) and then reunite with the ship at the next port.
