Sarah & Michael

Grand Haven, MI

After almost six years of dating, Michael planned the perfect Sunday proposal – only to have Sarah unknowingly halt the surprise. While they had made plans earlier in the week for an afternoon date, Sarah suddenly remembered Sunday morning that she had a school meeting she couldn't skip. "Michael did a great job of playing it cool, but he was secretly freaking out!" she says. After rearranging a few details, Michael waited until their nightly walk through downtown Ann Arbor to pop the question in front of the Burton Memorial Tower. "I've never been more surprised in my entire life!" Sarah says. The ring: Reaver Diamond Company

Katie & Scott

After seven years together, Scott knew planning a surprise proposal would be difficult. "I didn't want her to see it coming, but after having dated for that long, planning any sort of romantic endeavor definitely has the potential to look suspicious," he says. Since Scott was in need of a new suit, he and Katie made plans to go shopping. Once he had tried the final look on, Scott asked Katie for her opinion: "So, on a scale from one to good enough to propose to someone in, how nice is this suit?" A few seconds later, he was down on one knee. "To my delight, she said 'yes!' " The ring: Rottermond Jewelers

Natalie & Knox

Ann Arbor, MI

Natalie was still celebrating her sister's engagement when Knox decided to propose during a trip to Chicago with friends. When the two arrived at their hotel, Knox asked Natalie if she wanted her clothes ironed. "At that point, I was annoyed," she says. "I asked, 'What are you trying to say – my clothes look bad?' " Natalie continued to get ready for the night when Knox told her to come enjoy the view from their hotel balcony. "As I looked out the window, I noticed Knox drop to one knee," she says. "I looked back at him and he was just smiling from ear to ear." The ring: The Diamond Factory of Ann Arbor

Tieka & Eric

Grand Rapids, MI

Tieka and Eric were exploring a lighthouse in northern Michigan when he unexpectedly popped the question on a windy October day. "I absolutely love lighthouses and have seen over 30 of them so far – most of them with Eric," Tieka explains. But while Eric headed to the end of the pier to snap some photos, Tieka hung back with their puppy, Winny. "I decided to stay back because it was so cold, but I had to see it for myself," she says. It was only when she got to the end of the pier that Tieka noticed Eric was bending down. "I assumed he was grabbing a new lens out of our camera bag!" Tieka recalls. "I didn't even say 'yes' at first, since I had tears rolling down my face." The ring: Etsy.com

Katie & Chris

Katie and Chris were in the middle of building their first home together when he told her that something was wrong with the construction. "I was planning on making homemade lasagna, which is a stretch given my cooking skills, when Chris texted me saying there was damage at the site and we had to go take a look," Katie says. Once they arrived, Chris persuaded her to go inside, where he quickly got on one knee. After she said "yes," the two celebrated with a bottle of champagne in their soon-to-be kitchen. "He wanted to propose in the place that would be our future home – where we'd live after we got married and where we'd have our kids," Katie says. The ring: Ace Diamond Jewelers

Sweeti & Sunay

Detroit, MI

While driving to their first camping trip together, Sweeti was confused when Sunay suddenly pulled into a skydiving site in the middle of nowhere. "I was confused because he said we were taking a detour before setting up camp," she says. "But I didn't argue, since I love skydiving!" Once the two were geared up, Sunay hinted it was "the best day of his life" before being the first to jump. When she jumped soon after with her tandem instructor, Sweeti noticed a large banner on the ground that took her completely by surprise. "It read: 'Sweeti, will you marry me?'" she says. "My first thought was, 'Is that really for me?'" Once on the ground, Sunay proposed in front of Sweeti's friends who were waiting nearby. "Everything was surreal after that," she says.
