You just got engaged—now what? Before you dive into wedding planning, an engagement party can offer a chance to celebrate with loved ones and set the tone for what's to come—and the Bay Area is just the place to do it. Engagement party venues in the Bay Area run the gamut: There are romantic Bay Area restaurants, scenic and historic locales and aesthetically pleasing event spaces.

"An engagement party is a wonderful way to keep the excitement of the proposal alive and kick off the wedding journey with joy," says Mollie Jones Hennes, principal and co-owner of LA- and San Fran-based Bash Please. (Her firm recently planned celeb podcast host Alex Cooper's stunning Mexican wedding.) "It gives the couple a chance to celebrate with family and friends before the hustle and bustle of wedding planning begins. Plus, it's a perfect opportunity for everyone to gather and share in the couple's happiness. It's all about celebrating love and making lasting memories."

Jones Hennes helped us sift through the abundance of Bay Area engagement party locations and come up with a list of top spots in San Fran and the surrounding region. "San Francisco is an incredible city with so many diverse venues to reflect the couple's style and personality," Jones Hennes says. Here, check out our roundup of 12 engagement party venues, then dive into even more Bay Area engagement party venues on The Knot Vendor Marketplace. And, don't forget to check out our complete guide on engagement party planning.

The Barrel Room in Chinatown, San Francisco

When you think of Northern California, you might think of wine—and this venue is devoted to it. The female-owned restaurant was opened in 2008 by Sarah Trubnick, a sommelier who honed her skills in Bordeaux, Italy and Australia. Technically, The Barrel Room boasts not just one but four engagement party venues in the Bay Area: There's the main dining room, which can host up to 90 standing guests for larger celebrations, and a trio of smaller spaces for more intimate events. We love the underground lounge, dubbed Circa 1905, for vibey parties of up to 50 guests.

Park Tavern in North Beach, San Francisco

If you're considering Bay Area engagement party locations that are restaurants, consider what theme you are going for and find somewhere the food will have an impact. Jones Hennes has a handful of favorites, each for its own reason. Among them is Park Tavern, which she loves for its vibrant, art deco style. "The restaurant is fantastic for a more festive, intimate celebration," she says. "The food will impress guests and set the tone for a lively, celebratory evening."

The Alice Collective in Oakland

A chic mixed-use space, The Alice Collective can host intimate to mid-size events in its 3,600 square feet of open-floor-plan space. The venue is housed in a historic building and celebrates the community with rotating artwork on display and an enclosed garden patio. It also promises convenience: The venue has its own in-house boutique catering firm, Montperi Catering and Events (though couples are allowed to use preferred outside vendors if they prefer). Set up long tables for an intimate seated dinner or opt for high boys to mix and mingle.

Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden in Palo Alto

There's something magical about summertime in Northern California—not too hot and not too cold—and outdoor engagement party places in the Bay Area celebrate that. Gamble Garden is a stunning venue surrounding a historic home, with a variety of spaces across the grounds that can host up to 50 guests. Check out the Wisteria Garden, Rose Garden or Tea House Patio, all of which can be sectioned off for private event use.

Culinary Artistas in Ghiradelli Square, San Francisco

Culinary Artistas is a mixed-use event space that's especially fun for foodies: It hosts cooking classes by day and is equipped for food prep with movable prep tables, commercial-grade refrigerators and more. But even if you aren't a foodie, the flexible layout, prime location and gorgeous natural light for daytime events make it a must-see. The space can host up to 100 guests in 2,400 square feet.

Ferry Building in San Francisco

"The Ferry Building provides a waterfront experience with stunning views of the Bay," Jones Hennes says. "It's perfect for couples who want to highlight San Francisco's natural beauty." It also highlights the city's history: The Ferry Building is an iconic landmark that served as the gateway to San Francisco for train passengers beginning in 1898. Now, it's a stunning marketplace and event space with a variety of venues. The Grand Hall highlights the history of the space in its original architecture and hosts events from 30 up to 650 guests. Outdoors, the Plaza is right on the waterfront.

Foundry & Lux in South San Francisco

If you're looking for more relaxed Bay Area engagement party places and ideas, consider a casual night of cocktails and games. That's exactly what's offered at Foundry & Lux, where guests can play bocce ball, horseshoes, cornhole and more while they mix and mingle—it makes for a great icebreaker if this will be the first meeting for a lot of guests. Depending on the spaces booked, the venue can host groups of nearly any size, from 20 to 500.

Bix in Barbary Coast, San Francisco

"If you want to elevate the evening and create a sophisticated yet fun atmosphere, Bix is a superb choice," Jones Hennes says. "It's a classic supper club with a glamorous vibe, making it a great setting for a stylish engagement party with cocktails, live music and upscale dining. It's an iconic San Francisco spot known for its elegance and charm." Bix offers live music on a daily basis, and three musicians are included with the restaurant buyout option, which is great for seated engagement parties of up to 100 people or cocktail receptions for 150. The space also makes for a unique small wedding venue in the Bay Area.

Malibu Farm in Belvedere Tiburon

Just across the bay from San Fran (and offering stellar views of it), Belvedere Tiburon is a unique neighborhood with a maritime history. Malibu Farm is large enough to host a wedding but also offers unique spaces for smaller events, such as an engagement party in the Bay Area. The venue is also noted for its fresh, farm-to-table cuisine that makes for great engagement party food: Think coconut ceviche, pear and burrata salad and butternut squash pizza. (Psst, if not for your engagement party, this pretty spot makes a great bridal shower location in the Bay Area, too!)

Harris' Restaurant in Russian Hill, San Francisco

If your wedding (and engagement) vibe is classic and old-school, try a steakhouse for your prewedding event. Harris' in Russian Hill is chic and sophisticated, with wood-paneled private rooms varying in size to host anywhere from 12 to 100 guests. We love the book-lined library for an intimate seated dinner or The Skylight Room for a larger cocktail party.

Cavallo Point in Sausalito

"For couples wanting a breathtaking view of the Golden Gate Bridge and an unforgettable experience, Cavallo Point offers both," Jones Hennes says. "With its stunning setting near the bridge, this venue captures the essence of San Francisco while providing a luxurious and scenic environment. It's perfect for those who want their celebration to feel like a destination event, offering both beauty and an iconic view." The venue has a hotel and restaurant, Sula, that promises elevated cuisine in a chic midcentury setting, plus tons of on-site and nearby activity options if you plan to turn your engagement party into a whole weekend affair.

Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture in the Marina District, San Francisco

In addition to the Ferry Building, Jones Hennes suggests Fort Mason to couples looking for that historic feel with a touch of natural beauty. "Fort Mason offers a more relaxed, rustic feel with gorgeous vistas of the Golden Gate Bridge," she says. There are more than a half dozen venues across the historic campus; check out The Firehouse (guest capacity of 125) for a San Fran-themed engagement party, or The Store House (capacity 150) for a more modern event that can fit your vibe with engagement party decor.
