Jennifer & Jason: A Fall Affair Unfolds in the Poconos

by Allison Micarelli

Jennifer Luckhurst was unshowered and tired, but when boyfriend Jason Rock asked her to take a romantic boat ride on the lake, she didn't put up a fight. She loved the lake in the Poconos, where Jason had grown up. It was perfectly peaceful. Relaxing by the water's edge, Jennifer began nonchalantly skipping stones -- only to turn and find Jason on one knee. Though they wouldn't marry until two years later, once they became engaged they immediately decided on a fall affair. The Poconos, with its mountainous terrain and natural beauty, was also an easy choice for the perfect wedding backdrop.

SEASONAL COLORS The fabulous colors of autumn inspired the wedding and a look with rustic appeal. Jennifer's five bridesmaids and flower girl all donned different jewel-color taffeta gowns-together, the wine, olive, cognac, gold, and burnt-orange colors were fun, flirty, and reminiscent of the fall leaves.

A ROCKIN' RECEPTION After an intimate ceremony that took place in a small nondenominational church, built in the 1800s and set on sprawling farmland, guests headed to The Stone Bridge Inn to celebrate. Fireplaces were crackling to keep guests warm from the rain that would not let up outside. Since their last name was Rock, the couple chose to spread river rocks throughout the room, on every table and countertop. "I put them on the serving tables and along all the station tables, " says Jennifer. "They were even spread around the cake table." The only other decor: faux fall leaves-paper ones for each guest's escort card, and chocolate iced leaves adorning the wedding cake.

FOOD, DRINKS, AND FAMILY Jennifer and Jason were pleased that they decided to share their dinner table with both sets of parents. "It was a nice time to reflect on the moment and to actually get to eat some of the amazing food," says Jennifer, who opted for various stations instead of a set menu. "The food was so well received and was beyond my greatest expectations." Once the party started, it didn't seem to end. There was a festive spirit that kept energy levels high and joyous. Jennifer and Jason decided to extend the reception by an additional hour, and they kept the bar open all night. Apple martinis, the couple's signature drink, were a favorite treat, as were bottles of wine homemade by the groom and his father.
