*NEW* Stephanie & Chris: An Informal Family Affair on the Cape

by Kate Wood

Chris Summersgill knew that Stephanie Ressel Iriarte was the one from the moment she entered the room. But there was a catch: He lived in San Francisco and she lived in Guatemala. But he didn't let the distance deter him, and after a two-year courtship, he proposed with a ring he designed and made himself. They married in his parents' backyard after just seven weeks of planning.

The Date August 29

Ceremony Site The wedding ceremony, followed by a cocktail reception, took place in the groom's parents' backyard.

Reception Site After the cocktail reception, the group headed over to the Captain Linnell House for dinner. "The restaurant is in a colonial-style ship captain's house," Chris says. "We had a private room with a fireplace -- perfect for 35 people -- and dinner was great." (508) 255-3400, Orleans

Photography Stephanie and Chris loved working with their team of photographers, Kjeld and Melissa Mahoney. "They were wonderful people who immediately put us all at ease -- we wanted them to join us for the celebration! We enjoyed them and their pictures so much, we asked them to come back and take a family portrait in December," Chris says. kjeldm photography, kjeldm.com, Marshfield

Gown With their fast-paced planning timeline in mind, Stephanie chose a dress off the rack from Nordstrom. The Sue Wong design she wore was the very first dress she tried on, "but since I was there, she was coy and tried on a number of other dresses," Chris laughs.

Hair "I did it myself," Stephanie says. "The secret ingredient was Frederic Fekkai Glossing Cream which I used to get rid of the frizz when I was drying my hair."

Formalwear Chris wore a navy pinstripe suit from Anthony and Joseph.

Invitations The bride and groom created and printed the invitations themselves.

Flowers "The backyard was very green so we needed a little contrast," Stephanie says. "My bouquet included white, peach and cream roses with some citrus greenery. We also had two simple white pedestals topped with bouquets of white hydrangea, white lilies, and a few red lilies." Meredith Fancy, Fancy Flowers (508) 255-1303

Catering Before their dinner, guests enjoyed cocktails and appetizers in the backyard. Catering By Design (508) 398-5351, West Yarmouth

Music A duo of cellists from the Cape Symphony Orchestra played during the ceremony and backyard cocktail reception. Schultze-Ericsson Cello Duo (508) 255-9829

Cake Instead of a cake, key lime pie was served with dinner at the Captain Linnell House.

Accommodations Wequosset Inn Resort and Golf Club (508) 432-5400, Chatham

Honeymoon None yet -- after the wedding, the couple headed back to California so Stephanie could get back to school (she's studying architecture) and Chris could return to work. They are planning a second, springtime reception in California, followed by a long overdue honeymoon trip to Corsica.
