Violet & Jamie: Miami Heat in Long Island City

The lighting: dim. The decor: eccentric. The mood: exhilarating. Five years after Violet Lelekakis met Jamie Mazzei at a party, the couple invited family and friends to an even better party for their nuptials -- a celebration that was entirely unique.

THE SCENE The traditional ceremony took place at the Greek Cathedral of the Holy Trinity followed by a very non-traditional, night club themed, reception at a converted warehouse.

WORDS OF WISDOM "A wedding is whatever the bride and groom decide it should be," says Violet, who sought the help of wedding planner Lawrence Scott. "Don't let people scare you away from what you want to do. Jamie and I did the most unconventional things and it turned out to be beautiful."

MIAMI HEAT After the couple exchanged vows at a Greek Orthodox church, an absolutely fabulous fete, largely conceived by Scott, unfolded at a converted warehouse in Long Island City. The theme: To be "as least like a wedding as possible," Violet says. Though the reception was held in one of the hippest cities on the planet, Violet and Jamie wanted the sexy nightclub vibe of another hot spot: Miami. From the rented pool table to the signature Grey Goose vodka cocktails to the outrageous, one-of-a-kind centerpieces, it was as though guests had stepped into a scene where Old Hollywood meets modern funk.

COUTURE COUPLE The bridal party took on red-carpet elegance: the bride in a white crepe backless gown with a cowl neck, chandelier earrings, and sparkling Manolo Blahniks; the groom in a Dolce & Gabbana suit. The bridesmaids completed the fashionable look in their sleek champagne-color satin dresses. From the moment the reception began with the cocktail hour, the momentum never let up. The music -- spun by a DJ who chose a fusion of music accompanied by a bongo player -- kept everyone's energy levels high. With no built-in AC in the freight-elevator building, the dance party was a little hot, a little crowded, but one of the best times of your life, according to the bride. In keeping with the flow of the evening, the couple opted out of a sit-down dinner and chose a buffet instead. At tables dressed in outstanding artistic centerpieces -- large vases with goldfish and branches of soft petal blooms or large bamboo-shoot arrangements dotted with roses -- guests ate whenever they desired from around-the-world selections including Tuscan antipasto, sushi, and Asian-fusion dishes. Following the meal, a dessert buffet featured an assortment of mini cakes, candy bars, cookies, Greek desserts and, of course, wedding cake.

FESTIVE FAVORS All night in the dim romantic corners of the room, guests felt invigorated by the red, green, and blue disco-like strobe light effect, achieved not by actual lights but by the wedding favors: brilliant glow-in-the-dark ice cubes that bobbed in the drinks. The dancing and mingling lasted long into the evening, and in true nightcap style waiters passed around White Castle burgers on silver trays at midnight.

SPECIAL DELIVERYThen it was off to a honeymoon in Hawaii with a weeklong stopover in Las Vegas. The lucky-in-love couple came back home to a surprise: Violet was pregnant. The couple now enjoys a quieter lifestyle with their five-month-old baby boy.
