10 Ways to Have a Stylish Ann Arbor Wedding

From cool table names to local beers, here's your Ann Arbor wedding style checklist.

1.Head Downtown

Take your photographer downtown for a wedding day shoot (or for your engagement photos). Strike a pose in front of Michigan Theater or in the alley next door, which is covered with cool graffiti, making for great for photos.

2. Honor Your Alma Mater

If you went to the University of Michigan and you're getting married in Ann Arbor, you're almost required to show some sort of school pride. Take pictures on campus, inside a classroom, have your groomsmen wear U of Michigan lapel pins or order a custom logo groom's cake.

3. Show School Pride

Even if neither of you attended the University of Michigan, take advantage of the multiple wedding venues on the school's campus, like the Michigan League and the Michigan Union.

4. Throw a Market Party

Have your reception at Ann Arbor's farmers' market like Elizabeth and Joel did. It's unconventional but has a community vibe that's actually perfect for a wedding. (734) 794-6255, A2Gov.org

5. Label your Tables

Take a walk around town with your groom and pick your favorite street or landmark names for your tables. Get creative and personal and seat your guests at tables with names that have some sort of funny or special connection to them.

6. Get Down in your own Backyard

You don't have to go far to have an amazing, stylish wedding. In fact, it's pretty stylish to get married right in your parents' backyard if they have the space (and are up for the challenge).

7. Give Fresh Favors

Hanover's Michigan Mints are mint chocolates about the size of half-dollars, embossed with an outline of the state of Michigan, that make super-cute takeaways. (989) 224-0475, MichiganMint.com

8. Pick Peonies

If you're debating between using peonies or another bloom as your signature blossom, visit the famous Peony Garden at the Nichols Arboretum in Ann Arbor and let the 27 beds of this elegant yet fun flower -- in season in May and June--convince you it's the one.

9. Serve Local Fare

Your guests, especially the ones from out of town, will love local beers from Arbor Brewing Company in Ann Arbor; (734) 213-1393, ArborBrewing.com. If you want to offer local food as well, work with Food for All Seasons catering -- (734) 747-9099, FoodforAllSeasons.com -- to make sure everything is as organic as possible.

10. Have a Classy Bachelorette Party

Suggest Goodnite Gracie Jazz & Martini Bar to whomever takes charge of planning your last single hurrah. The Ann Arbor location has live music, specialty martinis and a dance floor upstairs if you feel like shakin' it. (734) 752-5740, GoodniteGracie.com
