Wedding-Worthy Looks From New York Fashion Week For You & Your Guests

by Heather Hall

Whether you're getting married or you're attending a wedding, we picked some of our runway favorites from NYFW to help you crack the dress code.

What to wear to…a ballroom wedding

Bride: You'll want a wedding dress with glamorous and shimmery details (like a voluminous skirt or pearlescent beading). And don't forget about the accessories. Pair your sparkly gown with gorgeous shoes (we are obsessed with the sheer booties from Oscar de la Renta) and over-the-top accessories, like crystal drop earrings or a statement headpiece.

Dresses by Oscar de la Renta, Zac Posen, Badgley Mischka

Guest: This is a formal affair, so put on your best LBD or go all out with a glitzy floor-sweeping gown. If you're really serious about looking stylish, find a dress with special details like a jeweled neckline or sheer overlay.

Dresses by Badgley Mischka, Jenny Packham, Naeem Khan

What to wear to…a garden wedding

Bride: Floral embellishments are the way to go if you're having an intimate outdoor garden ceremony. Complete your look with classic pearl accessories and lace details for a totally romantic style.

FASHION ALERT: Naeem Khan announced this past week that he'll be launching a bridal line this October for Bridal Fashion Week (we can hardly contain our excitement).

Dresses by Lela Rose, Naeem Khan, Monique Lhuillier

Guest: If the wedding is taking place at a casual outdoor setting, you can't go wrong with pretty pastels and embroidery designs.

Dresses by Bibhu Mohapatra, Oscar de la Renta, Rebecca Taylor

What to wear to…a rooftop wedding

Bride: A slinky sheath gown is perfect for your sophisticated affair. Add a little something extra special with intricate beading and unique fabrics.

Dresses by Badgley Mischka, Dennis Basso, Vera Wang

Guest: Choose a cocktail dress that has chic elements like Art Deco sequins, pretty pleats or netted lace (even if it's just printed on the fabric).

Dresses by Oscar de la Renta, Zac Posen, Tadashi Shoji

What to wear to…a city hall wedding

Bride: Skip the full-length gown and go for a simple cocktail dress or pantsuit. You're looking for trendy not traditional.

Dresses by Tadashi Shoji, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera

Guest: You can't go wrong with a modern cocktail dress. And the best part is you can dress this look up or down—pair it with a denim jacket and flats and you've got yourself a Saturday brunch outfit.

Dresses by Herve Leger by Max Azria, Ralph Lauren, J. Mendel
