Can't say enough positive things about my experience with Herbert from A Colored Mind. Picking the "right" photographer/videographer is definitely a personal decision and for us it came down to his creativity, professionalism, and understanding of our different cultures. We're kinda awkward and rarely take photos and videos of ourselves to share to others, let alone hire someone to do it. But he made the day so easy. He didn't get flustered or overwhelmed -- just a nice a balance which didn't ruin our ability to experience our day. I have dabbed in prosumer photography and videographer myself as a hobby, and let me tell you, he pays attentions to quality of the shot in terms of color/lighting/perspective. It's just beautiful. We got married in November and invited Herbert Zhu to capture our special day. I am so glad I did! From start to finish, Herbert Zhu was professional, responsive, and easy to work with. But what really stood out to me was the quality of the final product. When we received the video, my husband and I were blown away. They are so quick to respond any questions, affordable but very high quality. I booked them in 2019, when COVID-19 wasn’t a thing. Since COVID-19, we had to postpone our wedding twice but they were so flexible and understanding about the situation. On the wedding day, I saw the videographer and immediately impressed with their professionalism! Sure enough, the footages and highlight videos we received were amazing and my husband and I couldn’t stop watching :)

Herbert did an amazing job as our wedding videographer! We were on the fence about getting a videographer for our wedding; however, we decided at the last minute to hire one. We came across A Colored Mind when we were in the process of interviewing several other videographers. Herbert’s expert videography technique, tasteful cinematic style, and responsiveness really impressed us and we decided to book him right away. We had no doubt he will deliver exactly what we love and he absolutely went above and beyond. First and foremost, the super premium quality of his work. Upon watching the initial version of our highlight, we felt he must’ve read our mind the whole time and made the perfect movie for us. The video was so artistic and thoughtfully created, it definitely brought our big day to the next level! Getting all the raw footage was another great decision we made. Since Herbert had multiple shooting angles setting up, we got to see the celebration in a complete view and it was super fun watching it! Second, professionalism. Herbert lives about 100 miles away from our venue in Malibu and the traffic could be a nightmare. However, on the day-of, he arrived nearly an hour before the shooting start time and used the extra hour to get the stunning drone footages of Hwy1 and our venue details to be used for wedding highlight. Lastly, communication with Herbert was very efficient from start to end. Even after the wedding and after the delivery of all the work, he was still actively responding to all our requests. We strongly recommend Herbert to every couple who love cinematic&artistic videos for the most important day in their life!!

We were fortunate enough to see Herbert's work at our friends wedding and were blown away and decided to request his service. Both the experience through the wedding day and the final video went above our expectations! On the wedding day, Herbert was very actively involved in working with us to get the best and multiple shots. Brides - look no further! Herbert is hands down who you want to create your wedding video. I originally found him through IG - he had done another wedding at our venue. But his work was so impressive and his pricing is incredibly competitive, so I felt confident moving forward with him. He was prompt in his communication and day of, he had a vision and executed it perfectly. Everything was delivered timely - we got a teaser and a highlight - and I’ve lost count of the times we’ve watched both. Thank you, thank you, thank you Herbert!!!

Herbert's work ethic is unmatched. He came out to the desert in 90 degree heat and still managed to make every effort to capture our special moments. The most important thing for me was finding someone who knew how to film people of color! A Colored Mind's content was filled with diversity and the clearly encompassed the understanding of how to capture people of all skin tones, which was so important for me. After watching many of his videos I had no doubt he would deliver incredible work product. Of course I cried when I watched our wedding teaser and it brought back all of the memories from that night. Herbert and his team at A Colored Mind videography were really great to work with. I have worked in event planning for many years and have commissioned many videographers to shoot events. A Colored Mind was very organized, professional and efficient. Their team is gifted in being able to capture all the important moments without causing too much interference with the wedding’s proceedings. I was also able to ask for exactly the package I wanted, and A Colored Mind was able to deliver a detailed quote that was exactly what I was looking for and priced appropriately. I was also extremely impressed with the amount of B-roll footage was captured without direction to make for a truly professional look and feel to the final video, including breathtaking aerial footage of the whole venue and surrounding area. We were married at a winery, so the setting was really important to the aesthetics of the wedding, and A Colored Mind made sure to make it a focal point. We reached out to this company via The Knot for an initial price quote. After contacting them and doing some more research we decided to go with a different company for our videography that we had spoken to prior to ever contacting A Colored Mind, so we sent Herbert a polite message to let him know that and to thank him for his time. He sent back this exact message to us "We haven't talked about any thing yet, and you moved to a different company? are you even real or a fake lead crap? DAMN, 😅👍🤝🍻" We were truly shocked that someone would ever speak to a potential client this way no matter whether they booked or not. I can't speak to the quality of their work, but the way this company treats their clients based on my experience is unbelievably poor and unacceptable.

Our wedding was in September 2019. We knew we wanted to have a videographer at our wedding as many of our other married friends said that they either were glad they got a videographer or could hire someone to capture their wedding ceremony. This review is long overdue. My husband and I got married in October and we are SO happy with Herbert's work! From day 1, Herbert was very quick to respond and patient with our many questions and concerns. We didn't have a wedding planner so we handled every detail on our own and we were happy that Herbert was incredibly professional and on the affordable side compared to others in the area. Most importantly, we were so impressed with the quality of his work. We probably watched every single one of his videos available online before booking. We loved that he had a very stylistic and creative eye and the coverage he can capture is amazing considering he works alone. On the day of our wedding, Herbert was early and ready to travel between our several locations without an issue. He got along with our photographers, and was great at directing us and our bridal party. He has several cameras, a drone, lav microphones and lights to capture the day perfectly. He was not afraid to get into the middle of the action all day and night to get the best footage. If there are special moments in your ceremony or reception that you want to make sure he captures, just plan ahead and discuss those with him because on the day of it's impossible to remember everything and he will just GO. His instincts are great, but it helps to be clear with him before the event about any moments you need him to be in position for. We received both our long and short videos in a very timely manner, even faster than i expected and we were blown away. It was amazing to relive that day and he captured it so beautifully. I 100% recommend Herbert for wedding videography. If you're thinking of reaching out just know that he isn't as flowery and cheery as you might be used to when dealing with other wedding industry professionals, but he gets the job done, he's completely friendly and professional, and he's not afraid to tell you to adjust if he thinks he can get a better shot. My husband and I got married in Sept. I came across Herbert on Instagram and instantly fell in love with his eye / ability to capture a moment. We cannot rave enough about Herbert, A Colored Mind. First off, we were very budget conscious and his pricing was pretty competitive. Of course, we did a lot of research by viewing his other videos and we really liked his style. He was extremely responsive and always answered his emails quickly. After my husband and I decided to hire Herbert, we went through the normal nitty-gritty, the contract and deposit. Now, on to the day of, my husband and I are not exactly video professionals, so we definitely needed direction. Herbert made us feel comfortable throughout the entire day and instructed us without making us feel awkward at all. The end result, a beautiful video, delivered to us in less than 7 weeks. When I first started looking for a videographer, the first thing I noticed as I was going through portfolios was that each videographer have their own style, and many created cookie cutter videos...same scenes, same order, same audio layovers, etc. Not Herbert. His videos fell across the spectrum in terms of style, and each video had something special that made it unique. Another huge plus is the affordability. Thoughtful videos at a price that was cheaper than other videographers? Yes please! Overall, I loved my trailer and video, and I look forward to getting all my raw footage as well. Herbert has beautiful work and is an artist. I originally saw his work and contacted him to do my wedding at the lake. He worked with me financially so I could have my dream video and was very patient and kind. The day of my wedding I had a million people in and out of my small dressing room so I felt a bit overwhelmed and he was very patient and sweet. He got all the raw footage of my wedding and also made me a five minute video that summed up the whole experience and day . I saw during the wedding that he got every inch of our special day and was artististic the way he filmed it. He stayed until the very very end and I am so grateful he helped me and worked with me in so many ways because memories are very important to me especially because my parents are a bit older and my grandma is 92. The video takes a couple months but it's well worth the wait because when I got it ...it was the most touching beautiful video I've ever seen. The video made me cry and was so well done. I highly reccomend herbert. He is reliable , on time, creative , and a good person. I will use him again for other events. He also answers you fast when you have questions. I am so happy I found herbert. He's one of those people that made my wedding day extra special. Herbert made my wedding video dream come true! I saw one of his videos years ago, and fell in love. I married in a very small Outside venue and he really made the absolute BEST of it! He made it look huge, and captured the best parts of the venue and the party! It's so romantic, it's everything my husband and I had asked him for, and the price was so reasonable. I recommend him to every one, whether your wedding big or small, he will make your dreams come true. A video is forever! you will not regret choosing him as your videographer.
