She provided a beautiful ceremony which had us smiling and laughing during our ceremony. I would suggest Marie if you're choosing to officiate your ceremony by a justice of the peace in Connecticut. I highly recommend Marie if you are getting married in the CT area and need an officiant! She has a great sense of humor and a very positive, warm energy. She was willing to meet with us and cater the ceremony to whatever we wanted. She took the time to get to know us and made the ceremony very special. Horrible experience. We hired this vendor because of the great reviews we read online. Marie is unreliable. Plain and simple as that. Right after our wedding she texted my wife to say she was going to drop off the paper work. We called four days later because when we got to the town hall, they said that Marie hadn’t drop off the paperwork yet. So we called because we were confused. She came to meet us at the town hall, and guess what, she signed all the paper work in pencil. They only accept black ink pen. Sounds fishy for someone who’s been doing this for a long time. Would not recommend 100%

Marie did a terrific job leading an unforgettable ceremony on our wedding day. We didn't know Marie prior to our search for a wedding officiant, but you wouldn't have guessed that had you seen the ceremony. In the months and weeks leading up to the wedding, Marie took the time to get to know my fiancee and I on a personal level between phone calls, skype video chats and a meetup in Mystic. This allowed her to craft a ceremony that felt sincere and personal. She provided us with multiple versions of the ceremony beforehand to give us the opportunity to consider different options and incorporate our ideas into it. Marie is energetic, positive, and hilarious which are all evident in the ceremony, but she is also down to earth and helped us stay relaxed and grounded in the excitement of the wedding weekend. Finally, being local to Mystic, CT she gave us some excellent local recommendations for restaurants and bars for us and our guests over the wedding weekend. I couldn't recommend her highly enough!

Marie was absolutely amazing! My husband and I had to quickly elope for certain reasons and contacted Marie 4 days prior to our elopement! She helped us make our elopement so special! Marie is very professional, kind, and funny and we are so happy that she married us!! 1 year later and we still keep in touch! Thank you Marie for everything, we will never forget this day!! My husband and I called Marie at the last minute, about a week before our intended wedding vow renewal for our 3rd wedding anniversary. We had a rather unique request, and we were so thrilled Marie agreed to officiate for us. My husband and I wanted to renew our wedding vows in full KISS costume and makeup in front of the very spot at mohegan sun casino where we met for the very first time at a KISS concert almost a decade before (august 19 2010), right before the show on March 23rd 2019. Our vow renewal wasn't officially planned, and would require our officiant to be open minded and simply show up and officiate it in front of 100s of other concert goers and onlookers, and Marie was on board right away and so supportive! we didn't have time to meet up beforehand so we talked over the phone and through email and she wrote up the sweetest vows for us. Marie met us where we planned and we got right to it! The ceremony was so sweet and heartfelt...it felt like it was just us, like the casino full of people around us didnt even exist.... it was intimate for being in such a huge place. our vow renewal was everything we dreamt of and it was so very special. We would highly recommend Marie to anyone who wants a heartfelt and unique ceremony, with memories they will cherish for a lifetime. Thank you so much, Marie. it was such a pleasure meeting you and working with you!!!!!

Marie, as you can tell by googling her name or seeing this enormity of reviews, is an extremely popular lady with a personality as big as CT. She knows her career inside and out and has performed tons of Ceremonies. She had my husband and I fill out a written questionnaire covering many topics about our lifestyle and relationship details, which she then used to generate 3 different ceremony styles for us to choose from. I ended up choosing one, but editing it quite thoroughly to fit us just a bit better. My husband felt like I had to do too much editing, but I feel that he and I are just more picky about these things than most others, maybe. I have to say that it at times during the process it did feel a little impersonal working with her, probably due to the massive amounts of couples she meets. We had a few different phone calls in the early planning process where we heard the same spiel from her,"just google my name," and she asked about our careers/lives as if we hadn't spoken before. My last little bit to say... Marie has hardly ever mispronounced a name when announcing a couple. But for ours, she did. I am happy to say it wasn't as noticeable and wasn't in the most typical way people tend to mispronounce it. It sounded more like a fumble. The ceremony was still lovely and she seemed to stick to the edited copy I gave her as far as content played out. It really would be 5 stars if not for the last two bits I've mentioned here. I think she is a wonderful, wonderful lady who does an excellent job, but I cant honestly say that those things don't bother me a bit now that it's all said and done. I do recommend her wholeheartedly. Just emphasize a bit harder than me if you have an unusual last name, and if you have changes to your ceremony be sure to emphasize that, too. She does beautiful Ceremonies and I hope you have an absolutely lovely wedding with her if you choose her.

Marie made an effort to get to know me and my husband on a personal level. We had a very small (family and close friends only) wedding at a unique location, and wanted to have a ceremony that capitalized on both those things, and she really delivered. Everyone was laughing and smiling and happy, and it was overall a great day. We wrote our own vows, but she provided us with plenty of suggestions and references to help us come up with ideas and to make sure everything went smoothly. We definitely recommend her as an officiant to any couple, especially for a small, intimate wedding.

I can’t say enough about this wonderful woman. From the first time we spoke we just clicked and I knew my wedding was in good hands. I live in NY and had to plan my entire elopement in CT with my fiancé over the phone. Marie was so helpful and not only helped me plan every detail of my out of town wedding, but was happy to recommend other vendors that I needed for flowers, photography and music! Marie kept in close contact with me leading up to my wedding and ensured that every request I had was met to the last detail! Needless to say, our wedding went off as planned and we were so very happy with everything. Marie even called us the day after we were married just to see how we were enjoying our first day as husband and wife and to make sure we were satisfied with the service! I thought this was such a nice touch and attested to the character of Marie - who is someone who truly cares about others and really enjoys making others happy. Marie was a LIFESAVER. I was in panic mode about our wedding seeing we had just moved back home from Chicago, I had started a new job, we were house hunting, and now having to plan wedding in a town I knew nothing about (Groton LP)! So, my now husband found Marie online and we set up a meeting quick quick! As soon as we met her we knew we were going to hit it off! From the very beginning she made the entire process easy and actually enjoyable! She got to know and understand what it was we wanted and made it happen better than I could have imagined. She was also our JP and I don’t think anyone could have done it better- she made us laugh, cry, laugh again and even made us stop to smell the roses- just to ensure we would have a memory of each moment that day. And, on top of all of that, she managed to help us out with renting an amazing house on the point with views of the ocean for days where we were able to host our reception dinner. I would recommend her to anyone looking to plan the wedding they’ve always imagined!

My husband had heard good things about Marie Tyler Wiley, and was able to get her to marry us in our own home! A few weeks before the wedding, she emailed both of us a questionnaire to fill out so she could get to know us. Then, she sent us the draft of the ceremony and asked for our feedback (I only changed one minor thing, because she really has us nailed, it was great!). It was a simple ceremony, and she did a wonderful job making sure my wishes were met to have a moment to honor my mother and my husband's father (both deceased). She made us laugh and cry during the vows, and even stayed for some pictures at the end. I would recommend her if anyone needs a JP or officiate.

Marie was great! From the very beginning, when we first contacted her to the ceremony itself. Marie was prompt, funny and efficient and I couldn't think of anyone else I'd rather have had to conduct mine and my husbands wedding ceremony. Marie was a wonderful, funny, and thorough JoP. I appreciated her friendship, inquisitiveness, and tireless effort dealing with my endless questions. The only caveat to Marie as far as I see it is that she adds her own wording despite thinking that what you send her is exactly how it will be read. It wasn't inappropriate or rude, it was just not what I had expected. She showed up a few minutes before the ceremony and stayed for a half hour or so thereafter to mingle with the guests and make sure we were happy with her services. My husband says "she did a great job, added the right degree of humor, and took the time to get to know us." We would hire her again (you know, to renew our vows or something!)

She also comes very well-prepared for your "big day" - she "interviewed" my husband and me separately about our romantic history, favorite memories, and thoughts on a long-lasting marriage, then shared them during the ceremony! Marie Tyler Wiley is the best officiant and wedding planner you could ever ask for! I highly recommend her to anyone getting married in Connecticut. Officiant: As an officiant, Marie is knowledgeable, organized, and creative. Our wedding ceremony ran smoothly and we felt completely comfortable on our wedding day because of her wealth of experience. She also performed a beautiful wedding ceremony, called “Wedding by the Sea”, which complimented our venue and theme perfectly (our ceremony was held outdoors, alongside the Mystic River, and we selected a nautical theme). Marie is also personable, caring, and incredibly funny – her personality and humor could light up a room! My husband and I both agree she made our wedding ceremony more memorable because she simply is the type of person you could meet once and never forget. Planning: Marie is a great wedding planner because she knows everyone in town, and everyone loves her because she has the biggest heart! I planned my ceremony while living in another state (Atlanta, Georgia), but I never worried about selecting vendors because Marie knows all the best talent in town. She was also very diligent about keeping us on track with our wedding budget, and maintained a perfect balance between making choices which were economical without sacrificing quality. Marie really went above and beyond to make sure my husband and I felt comfortable during the planning process, and enjoyed our overall wedding experience. When I was living in Atlanta, I didn’t have close friends or family nearby to help me shop for a wedding dress (we had recently moved from Virginia), so Marie arranged for one of her good friends who lived in the area to help me find a dress. Additionally, the day before my husband and I got married, Marie even met with us to go swimming so we could relax and de-stress before we tied the knot :) My husband and I really appreciated Marie because we were able to go through the wedding planning process knowing we were in good hands.

Marie was absolutely fabulous!!  Less than 2 months before our wedding we found ourselves without an officiant which was when I thankfully found Marie.  She calmly told me there was nothing to worry about and provided us with a ceremony which was exactly what we had hoped for.    I can honestly say Marie was the best vendor we chose, and the only one who, true to her words, made the entire process  pleasant and seemless.  I highly recommend her to everyone!!

Marie officiated my wedding when my wife and I got married in Stonington, CT in 2009. Being a same sex couple desiring to make our commitment to each other official in the year 2009, our options were limited as we live in Nashville, Tn. Through my onlibe research I found Marie and we couldn't be happier. She helped us organize our ceremony from Nashville and made this potentially stressful time seamless. We wanted to have an outdoor ceremony at a lighthouse and she helped us pick out the perfect site. Our wedding party was very simple; just me and my wife, but we still wanted a cake and a photographer and Marie provided us with referrals for both that far exceeded our expectations. Marie was AMAZING, plain and simple. She was easy to work with from the beginning to the end. From the time of our first meeting we felt so comfortable working with Marie and we knew from that moment she was the perfect fit for us. Marie performed the wrong ceremony for our wedding. Instead of reading the vows my fiance and I had written, she read a pre-written template ceremony, one that she had given us as an example of the types of ceremonies she usually performs. Our vows started with the same opening line, but were otherwise completely different. This ended up being disastrous. I think that because they had the same opening line, she didn't read our entire email and assumed we would be using her prewritten ceremony. Some examples of what went wrong? She asked one of my aunts to read an Apache love poem, which came across as rude to my Scottish-Polish family. She didn't tell me she would be asking someone to read a poem, and just selected a random aunt that happened to be attending the wedding, which was very hurtful to my mother and other close relatives. She made mean comments about how long it had taken my fiancé and I to get married in front of all our guests. She teased us for "making googly eyes at each other in high school" and for dating for 15 years before getting married. She made our adorable high school romance seem weird. She failed to mention my deceased grandparents who were very close to me, but spoke about my fiance's grandfather whom he had never met. Maybe it was because my grandparents last name was hard to pronounce? I could have taken their last name out of the vows if it was that big of a deal. At least she remembered to mention my deceased father, albeit briefly. And worst of all, I didn't get to say "I do" at my own wedding, because her template didn't include that. A childhood dream of mine was ruined, all because she didn't read the vows my fiancé and I had written. After the ceremony was over, I asked her quietly (trying not to cry) why she didn't read the vows we had provided to her. She actually insisted that she had read the correct vows! My new husband had to show her the email we sent containing our vows before she would admit her mistake. At that point, I just walked away and tried to enjoy my cocktail hour. It was clear that she wasn't going to apologize to me, and I wasn't looking for a fight. She did refund 20% of the cost to one of our groomsmen, which was a nice gesture, but I honestly feel I shouldn't have had to pay at all. And an apology would have gone a long way. It's been a year since my wedding, so the initial pain has worn off. But I'll always remember that heartbreaking feeling of having her read the wrong vows in front of all my guests, and having to go through with the wrong ceremony just to avoid making a scene in front of my family and friends. It was embarrassing, hurtful and heartbreaking. I'm not generally an emotional person, but I honestly felt like crying when I realized that the ceremony was over and I hadn't gotten to say "I do." And it all could have been avoided if she just read our vows, like she said she would.

When my wife and I worked with her, it became clear that she was experienced; she knows what works; she knows how to get people what they want and need even if they don't; she is a professional; she is kind and considerate; and she improves the mood/environment with her wit and happiness. Marie was a fantastic JP! She worked with us to make everything personal. Our guests gave her lots of compliments and everyone wanted to know how we knew her. They didn't believe we had just found her online! We have spent a lot of time in Mystic and knew the area but she has lots of information for people who are less familiar. We had multiple other vendors say, "Oh, you are working with Marie - she knows what to do!" Thanks again, Marie!

Marie was the completed package. We were looking for a light hearted, yet "true to us" kind of ceremony and Marie was on point. Our day was truly magical, we couldn't have wanted for better.

Marie is THE BEST! If, like my husband and I, you are not religious or have mixed backgrounds but want someone who will put her heart into your ceremony, as if you were a longtime clergy member or even a friend, she is the one to choose. Marie takes her job very very seriously and truly wants to give you the best ceremony possible. And not the ceremony SHE thinks is the best, the one that is best for YOU. To achieve this she has you answer a questionnaire about yourself, your family, your wedding and of course your relationship. She will also meet (and in our case, Skype), with you whenever needed to work out the details. And she's very responsive on e-mail. She really wants to get to know you, and it shows. Finally, Marie is hilarious. She will deliver a heartfelt and sweet ceremony, but will also keep your guests laughing. She entertains the crowd, and she loves doing it, because she loves people. In my case, we had a mixed ceremony where we included two Jewish traditions, since my husband is Israeli. When we told Marie we wanted to have his dad step up and read the Seven Blessings - a Jewish tradition - in Hebrew, and for her to translate to English, she was game. In fact, anything we suggested she was up for! In terms of her process, Marie draws upon the questionnaire and any meetings or calls to write up three different ceremonies personalized for you, then works with you to reconfigure to meet your preferences. For us the result was just perfect: we were very happy, and we received many many compliments from our guests. So if you want someone who really cares about YOUR wedding, loves her job, entertains your guests and will also keep you calm (I had a meltdown before the ceremony because I got nervous being in front of so many people in that big dress) - it's a no brainer. I've taken a lot of time to think about whether I would write a review of our wedding experience with Marie Tyler Wiley. I rarely write reviews for anything (especially not negative ones!) She is a lovely, lovely person, and as noted by many stellar reviews she is a terrific wedding JP. However, for our wedding day it wasn't a good fit. What it boils down to is I really got the impression our wedding wasn't important enough or large enough to receive her full attention. Marie told us to arrive at the ceremony 45 minutes in advance and she would be there to go over any last minute details. However, on the day of the wedding she arrived 5 minutes before the ceremony was to begin. Our church was still locked (by no fault of Marie) and ourselves and our guests were left to mill around in front of the church wondering if a wedding would actually take place. I really wish she could have been there to help straighten things out or answer the phone calls I placed to her. For our actual ceremony, Marie had given us copy of the ceremony beforehand to proofread and add any personal touches. My husband and I took a lot of time to add special details and include a remembrance to our late grandparents. While performing the ceremony it was apparent she hadn't read it beforehand. She made some insensitive comments about some of our details (hurting my feelings in the process) and significantly deviated from the ceremony we had given her. She completely left out any mention of our grandparents. Looking back on our wedding, the whole experience felt rushed and uncomfortable. Being as popular as she is, I'm sure she had other weddings to officiate during the weekend of (and probably even the day of) our wedding and she was trying to squeeze us in between other engagements. I'm sure she is a wonderful JP for most every wedding big or small. For us though, I wish we had chosen differently. Steve and Liz Struble

Marie is the Best! I had seen her at two ceremonies before and I knew I wanted her to officiate ours. Marie is so personable, and has a great energy and sense of humor. She was able to do our ceremony a week after I contacted her. Even on short notice it was so personalized you would of thought she had know us for years. Marie was even kind enough to open her beautiful colonial home to us and our closest friends for an intimate and romantic New England ceremony. After speaking with Marie on the phone the first time we decided she was the one! We had a unique situation and were getting legally married with a small group of family/friends. Marie was supportive the entire time. She personalized the ceremony for us and even recommended a few locations that would accommodate elderly family members.We needed to change the time of the ceremony due to our family and Marie was flexible with our changing schedule. The most memorable part of the experience was the ceremony she wrote for us. She made us laugh and really captured the spirit of our relationship. We are having a larger ceremony for the rest of our family and friends in the Caribbean and we're hoping she can make the journey to help us renew our vows!

From the initial contact, I knew Marie was the one. Our situation was a little different than most. I talked to Marie on the phone and hired her right then, we did not meet beforehand. Even though the wedding was very small she wanted to make it personable and special to us. Her energy and positive attitude was contagious. The wedding was in Newport, Rhode Island and I live in Mississippi and everything was arranged over the phone and she was very helpful in making suggestions as to where to have the ceremony. We even had a situation as far as the time the ceremony was to take place, we gave Marie a window of 2 hours and let her know literally an hour and a half prior. She came through with flying colors and had the biggest smile on her face. I would highly recommend her to anyone. She could have easily taken the money and not showed up because I did not know her and was not from the area. I am so glad that Marie officiated this special moment and am forever grateful.
