Hi there, my name is Amanda. I am a filmmaker with decades of experience filming weddings, documentaries, and more. Lately I have been wondering, what kind of wedding film would couples be genuinely and whole-heartedly thrilled with? What sort of wedding film would I be really, really excited to make? I trained with the master cameraperson Albert Maysles, and as he did, know how to intuitively and quickly read a situation and capture it with a poetic eye. "A camera should have behind its lens the eye of a poet," said Orson Welles, and I know this is one element of a great wedding film. I am always at the right place at the right time - a lot of people say that - for me it is true. Another element is locating and showcasing the unique qualities of the story: you! Every couple has a story worth telling. My motivation to be a wedding filmmaker is to capture this story. It is your story as a couple through your wedding and not simply a document of your day. An authentic story is told from the heart: I love hearing all the details about you and your journey together. The way you met, the things you like to do, your dreams. All this helps me identify and unfold the story. Connecting with you on a personal level, building a true relationship based on mutual trust is a crucial part of the process. And so for me a great wedding film is personalized, honest, and completely unique. How do we get there? I get to know you as much as possible beforehand. We have a long phone or video conversation, maybe two. We meet in person, if we're close enough. I find out all about you, and you get to know me. You decide when filming starts. When the story begins. Maybe it starts the night before, with a scene at your home. Maybe I travel with you to your wedding destination. And maybe it ends as the dancing gets going during your reception or the day after on a walk through town and a nearby beach. When I am there, I am a comfortable, unobtrusive presence. I will not direct you. I will locate what is important, the emotional resonance, and capture this through image and sound. I can use HD, standard definition, and 8mm cameras. I am interested in using the older cameras as I feel their soft imagery is more like a dream - and the moving image is a dream. I can sprinkle 8mm throughout a mostly HD film, or just use 8mm. Afterwards, I put the footage together into an artful film. This is what I am working towards. If this sounds appealing to you, let's be in touch and have a conversation.
