Ames Cupcake Emporium Reviews
4.2 out of 5.0

So here's the thing I loved the most about Tanya, who owns and runs Cupcake Emporium : she's passionate about her cupcakes.
We initially went here because it was one of the few places in Ames that did vegan (cup)cakes. We ended up ordering ...
four delicious cupcake-cakes and one cutting cake. For 85 guests who showed up, that was almost two cakes too many.
We ended up with just about one cake in leftovers. This means the guests had far far more than they normally would - and that the cakes were awesome.
Tanya worked with Hilton to create a great display, and made sure the cakes were decorated and looked great, apart from tasting amazing. She was professional to work with, and her priorities were straight.
If it weren't for my guestlist where I didn't know how many would end up turning up, I would have gone with cupcakes. As it is,I have zero regrets.
Thank you cupcake emporium :)

My husband and I had cupcakes from the Cupcake Emporium at a food festival and loved them, so we decided to get cupcakes for our wedding. I booked with them about a month ahead of time for 4 dozen cupcakes, and they said they would call back to...
arrange delivery a day or two before the wedding because the ceremony was on a Sunday and they would be closed.
They lost my order (and didn't think to reply to the emails I had sent before booking the order via phone, or trying to get in touch any other way) and I didn't hear back from them, and when I tried to reach them the evening before the wedding and the morning of, nobody picked up, of course. We ended up getting cake the morning of the wedding from Gateway Market.
The day after the wedding, my husband called them to see what had gone wrong. They said that they had received four orders that day and two of them had been lost and they called but didn't get through (but there are no records on my phone of missed calls from them.) Apparently none of the employees owned up to being the one who took down/lost the orders, which means they don't keep records of who works when, because we gave them the exact date and time on which I placed the order.
In addition, the manager told us she would call us back after getting more information, and she lost our phone number within the day. So it seems like this happens a lot. We got a very lukewarm "sorry" and that was it.
So in conclusion, while I definitely think their cupcakes are 5-star delicious, and they must be nice for drop-ins, their customer service and organization was terrible.

Best cupcakes I've ever had! They were so easy do deal with and always did whatever they could to make us happy! I think we came in for about 3 taste testings and never once did she make us feel like we were putting her out! We had a candy tabl...
e set out as a favor, we have a tun of candy left but the cupcakes were gone fast!

The Cupcake Emporium did the cupcakes and a small top tier cake for my wedding. The cupcakes were very good and were cute. The staff at the brick and mortar location did seem confused a lot of them time. I think only the owner really handles th...
e weddings, and when I would call with questions the rest of the staff usually had no idea what I was talking about. That was a little frustrating. They were decently priced, cheaper than some of the other places in Des Moines. I believe each cupcake was about $1.50-1.75, and I paid a stand rental fee of something like $50, and a delivery fee (my wedding was in Des Moines, they're based in Ames) of around $75. I would recommend them, but just be patient - I think they're a fairly new business and are still figuring things out. They didn't make any mistakes the day of and came through with beautiful and delicious cupcakes.

My husband and I opted to go for cupcakes instead of cake since we both couldn't agree on 1 or 2 flavors. Ames Cupcake Emporium was the perfect place for us! The owner let us choose about 8 flavors of cupcakes for a "taste test" and made all of...
her frostings for us to try too. She delivered all the cupcakes, helped me come up with ideas for displays, found boxes for our guests to take home extras as favors, and made sure our cake toppers were set in place for the reception. All of the guests raved about the four cupcake flavors we had chosen, and there were hardly any leftovers. Personally, a much better choice than any cake would have ever been!
