My fiance and I were interested in this venue for our wedding reception. I corresponded with the event coordinator to learn more and schedule a venue tour. After getting the run around to schedule a tour, we finally settled on a day and time. The day of our tour she cancelled... Read More because she is not in the office today. She tried to blame me on the scheduling error but I have it all in writing in our email chain that she confirmed my appointment. Overall the event coordinator was unprofessional. I would never trust this venue or woman to coordinate anything on my wedding day.

New brides beware!

I've been in love with this venue for years, really was the only place I could picture getting married. After 3 weeks of being toyed and dragged around I can only hope to prevent new brides from going through this. Stuart, the owner, is building a new space next door... Read More (sharing a wall and courtyard) that will pretty much mimic Salvage One (another antique store/wedding venue) with a parallel price tag. We have envisioned using the courtyard for the ceremony, and apparently which ever side books the space first gets it. That's fine since no one has the date yet, but each side has windows that look into the courtyard meaning that if one ceremony finishes before the other, you will most definitely hear and see it, I hope no one is crazy enough to allow that to happen to their most valuable moments. We tried are best to get them to promise some effort of sound proofing will be done, but he would do no such thing. Since both spaces share a brink wall, its possible that noise from one band/DJ will be heard on the other. My fiancee and I are truly heartbroken and I hope that whoever goes to see the space knows what's in store. Feel free to message me to find out more, good luck.

Double Booking Disaster

Reviewed on 10/22/2014 Katie S

My husband and I got engaged in May 2013. In June, we began looking for reception venues. We found Architectural Artifacts and just loved it! We loved the uniqueness of the venue and all that it had to offer with the ability of wedding guests to peruse the merchandise. So,... Read More we booked right away for September 20, 2014. It was a little shocking at how booked they were over a year away, but we learned that is the business. When we were in range for the wedding, we came and did a walk through with the caterers and then we came in again and selected the artifacts that we wanted to incorporate into our reception. Our reception was set to start at 6. On the day of at 2 PM, I get a call from Jamie, our contact at AA (my bridesmaids are in their dresses. Our hair and makeup are done and we are in the limo on the way to the chapel). She asks a couple of questions- the first being, "when are you getting married?" My response: "That would be today- in an hour." Then, she realizes, "We've double booked." In an outstandingly poor example of customer service, she proceeds to blame me, saying that I wrote 'September 20, 2015' on all of my correspondence. I hang up and look up my correspondence with her. Everything- including the contract- says 2014. Jamie calls me back and proceeds to insist that I wrote 2015. I send her the contract that I have on file. She sends me an email I had sent her 7 days prior with 9/20/15 on it, saying "the cupcakes will be delivered on Saturday between 2 and 4 PM. I doubt she double booked a whole other wedding in 7 days based on that e-mail. After that, I wasn't completely privy to what happened because I was busy getting married. But my understanding is that Architectural Artifacts called around to other venues and found one that was thankfully available (they had a cancellation)- The Ravenswood Event Center. Thankfully, the owner the AA took full responsibility and paid for everything having to do with the reception. He paid for the caterer, the new space, the DJ, and completely refunded us our money. He also wrote a nice e-mail profusely apologizing for the huge mistake. In the end, everything worked out. Our new reception was beautiful and came together just in time due to the hard work of our friends and catering company, Jewell Events Catering. It was very nice that AA compensated us for their mistake and certainly a relief that we ended up saving so much money. But in the end, I cannot recommend AA as a wedding venue. The behavior of Jamie was just so unacceptable and I don't understand how she didn't realize there was a double booking until the day of the event- 2 PM no less. This is especially surprising because we had been there twice in the 2 weeks leading up to the event. I'm sure the other couple was too. Also, she had been talking to our vendors. That is either true negligence or ignorance. No explanation has been provided for how this happened and at this point, I don't think I even care to know. It is my hope that this doesn't happen to any other wedding because it was a pretty awful three hours when I thought I didn't have a wedding reception. But thankfully, we were fully compensated for the mistake.

I had my reception at AA this past July. Good news-- they now have air conditioning! That helped a lot of eliminating the extra cost of renting A/C. The new construction is awesome-- there was a makeshift bridal room when I was there (a really cool mirrored room), but Stuart... Read More told me that they are in the process are building an "official" one. The outdoor courtyard in the back is HUGE and perfect for cocktail hour, etc. Overall I got so many compliments on my wedding and venue. It's wonderfully unique, and they let you use whatever you want within the space (within reason) to help decorate. We used Food For Thought as our caterers and they were awesome as well. Highly recommend both! P.S. They are in the process of out-sourcing the management of the space (event planner, etc) to another company. I'm sure all the hiring/firing will end soon!

I absolutely love the space at architectural artifacts - it's completely unique, urban, and you can be super creative with it, but it's great even if you don't do much. The store has so many unique items and you can incorporate them into the event space. I highly recommend... Read More it. My one complaint, and it's possible we just worked with them at a weird time - is the inconsistent staffing and how they handled it. When we booked the space, Marie was there and had been there for a long time and seemed great. However, several months before the wedding she left. We weren't told anything about it. They hired a new person, but she ended up leaving after a short time. Once again, no communication to us, and emails that were sent to her went unanswered, without even receiving an auto-reply letting us know that we should contact someone else. Finally, the month before our wedding they hired someone else, and although she didn't know the space as well, she was really helpful. But then, the night before our wedding, she was evidently fired (no idea why)and so a few things that we had asked for didn't happen. And of course, no one told us that until we asked where she was... Everything still went well - the items we wanted weren't the be all and end all of the wedding at all, and Stuart (the owner) and everyone were helpful as they tried to pick up the slack, but it was still an unwelcome surprise. The issue is not so much the turnover itself (although unless the last coordinator did something really horrible, I think they could have at least waited a day to get rid of her...), but the lack of communication to the clients.
