I really don't like to spout nasty things about businesses online, especially in this economy, but I feel the need to share my experience at Aversa's Italian Bakery with all of you. My Mom recommended this bakery to me after using them for vari...ous events at her previous place of employment. She ensured me they were the best and I have always trusted her judgement, so I decided to use them. When I walked into the place, I was greeted by an older woman who had nothing positive to say about anything I was telling her. Everything that I said I would like to have, she had a negative comment about. A younger woman with a much nicer attitude helped us finish writing up the order and set up a meeting with the baker and my Mom that following Monday (I live out of the county, so my Mom was handling this for me). My Mom met with the baker, saw samples of icing colors, was shown how the cupcakes would look, paid a deposit, and went on her way. She was even given a sample cupcake to taste when she got home. The very next day, she recieved a phone call saying that they could not and would not do my wedding cake (I wanted a cupcake tier with a small cake on top for us to cut). At first, they said that they could not find a cupcake tier big enough for 60 cupcakes. My Mom said that wasn't a problem. That we didn't mind if they put them on multiple tiers. They said that they would not be able to do that either. My Mom went as far as to offer TO PAY for whatever cupcake tier they needed and however many tiers they needed and they flat out told her that they WILL NOT do the cupcakes. My Mom had spoken with the owner of the bakery the day before and she was ensured countless times my request would not be a problem. They did not offer to rectify the situation at all. I am very easy going and would have done anything to figure out a way to make this work, but they wouldn't hear any of my Mom's suggestions and they would not offer any suggestions to us. They just acted as if they didn't need or want our business AFTER telling us it could be done AND taking my Mom's money. They were at least decent enough to give us a number to another bakery, but I would figure they would want the business for themselves. I don't know if my request was too difficult for them or if they just didn't want to deal with it. I would figure a cupcake tower with a small cake for us to cut would be simple compared to some of the extravagant wedding cakes I've seen on line. This situation is heartbreaking because I don't understand why they got my hopes up in the first place only to stick their noses up at me for whatever reason. So, I wanted to warn future Brides to think twice before using this bakery. I don't know what the problem with my request was and I will most likely never now, but I want to save all of you the heartache that I am going through right now. Good luck to all of you!!
