The Barrow Mansion was a beautiful venue for our January wedding! The space is so romantic, and you can really feel the history - the 100 year old bowling alley was a huge hit! But the stellar customer service was really the icing on the cake ;)
Jim was incredibly helpful from my very first inquiry, and the ladies he works with of Greater Good Events (Ellen and Rachael) were great at helping us plan when we truly needed it. It is a blank space, but therefore very customizable! We managed to plan our wedding in just a few months and had a gorgeous wintery event that our friends are still talking about!
My wife and I knew we wanted to get married locally, preferably within walking distance of our apartment in Jersey City. After one visit to the Barrow Mansion, we were charmed. It was the perfect fit for our budget, guest list and general theme, which was vintage or how if two lesbians could have, would have gotten married in the 1920s (regardless of Prohibition).
Having your wedding at the Barrow Mansion is sort of like having an open concept home. There is total freedom, which is great, but can also be daunting. Thanks to Greater Good Events (contracted event coordinators w/ Barrow Mansion), Jim and the rest of the Barrow staff, that anxiety diminished and we were able to make a plan and execute it. From seating arrangements to deliveries to the schedule of events - everything was perfect.
From the morning of our big day, to the last moments of our celebration, we were well taken care of at the Mansion. Our guests were happy, therefore we were happy! A wedding day is already special, but when you get to celebrate it at a unique venue, with excellent support, a wedding day can be epic. Ours was and because we kept it local, we can stroll past the mansion any time and be happy with our choice.
Getting married at the Barrow was a dream come true. We were looking for a nontraditional space in North Jersey, and really lucked out with this Hudson County gem. We held our cocktail hour in the front parlors, and dinner and dancing in the theater. Our guests loved the addition of the bowling alley at our wedding. We received so many messages the following day about how much fun our wedding was. We happened to have perfect weather the night of our wedding, so our guests were able to enjoy cocktails outside on the steps and within the Barrow's gates. We did all of our wedding photos at the Barrow since the building is so elegant and unique. Parking can be tough in Jersey City, but don't let that deter you. Some of our guests lucked out with street parking. Others parked at a pay lot about two blocks away. We offered a shuttle bus from the town our church was in, and got no parking signs from Jersey City for the front of the building for easy pick ups and drop offs. I could rave about the Barrow all day. We loved having our wedding here!
If you take a moment and read the rich history associated with this beautiful home, you will truly consider it for ANY special occasion. I was married at the Barrow Mansion on October 14, 2018. It was a magical day in a wonderful space. Not only is the Mansion like stepping back in time, it feels like a home. We used the two parlors for an intimate brunch for 55 guests. We used the original gym as our ceremony room and the bowling alley, billiard room and front porch for cocktail hour. It was intimate and fun! The Barrow Mansion included a wedding planner with the rental. That was very helpful. Jim (Barrow Mansion) and Ellen (Greater Events) were kind and helpful every step of the way. I recommend this venue to anyone. Esli October 2018
A few months before our wedding our original ceremony venue cancelled on us & my friend and photographer recently shot a wedding at Barrow Mansion & said I had to check out the space. The space was exactly what we needed, on our block so we could maintain the JC neighborhood feel we were looking to share with our loved ones, intimate, & truly a blank slate (make it what you want) with a ton of natural light. Which was important since the original space was outdoors. The space provides all of the charm you want from a historic building (high ceilings, molding, old wood doors & windows, and beautiful marble fireplaces) without any of the gaudiness you would associate with a mansion (gold accents & loud wallpaper). We only brought in white wood chairs, florals, and a few vintage rugs and the space was instantly romantic. Since it isn't that large of a space & sound carried well, we didn't have to go through the hassle of renting a sound system & microphone for us and the officiant. Jim & crew were extremely friendly, responsive via email, and accommodating anytime we wanted to set up time to stop in and check the music sound or space out chairs. Ultimately, I can't say enough how everything happens for a reason, but we couldn't have been happier to share our vows in this intimate setting that felt truly magical day of.
Barrow Mansion was the perfect spot for our intimate ceremony! My husband and I wanted something unique that was able to cater to a small ceremony (35 people). We ended up using one of the parlors for the ceremony and renting out the bowling alley for a champagne toast immediately following - everyone loved it! The space was beautiful, the wedding was so special and Jim (the property manager) was lovely to deal with. He was responsive and made things easy throughout the entire process. I was able to bring in whatever vendors I wanted (florist/furniture rentals/photographer) and tailor the space to our vision. They have different rooms to choose from and can customize a plan for you based on the size of your event - it was such a personal experience and Iām happy to recommend the venue to anyone looking for an upcoming wedding/event.
Beautiful, unique venue in the heart of Jersey City! It is in walking distance from everything. It is such a great space and the staff is amazing! They cater to your every need, they are in constant contact with you and they truly care about you and your event. I have hosted several events at the Barrow Mansion, and I never regret it. I love this space and so will you!
I hosted my wedding ceremony here in the front parlor room, and it was a lovely place for our intimate gathering of family and friends! Jim worked with me throughout the week leading up to plan for decorations, including a meeting for my florist to see the space, and design a custom arrangement. He provided a table and chairs as well as beautiful rug. The space was just perfect for us to have our families witness our intimate ceremony, and partake in a champagne toast and photo session afterwards. We also had access to the old bowling alley in the basement for some fun and unique shots of our group! We are really pleased with the day and the whole experience of working with Barrow Mansion!
The Barrow Mansion offers a beautiful historic template for creating a special event! The mansion makes you feel at home, yet its large enough for everyone to be comfortable. Its really a unique and wonderful place for a wedding as the pictures can attest. ---So conveniently located in the lovely historic Van Vorst Park neighborhood of downtown Jersey City; close to the Turnpike, Holland Tunnel and Grove Street PATH station. Its a hidden gem that is an amazingly affordable option for a uniquely special event!
