My initial encounter was relatively positive, however I felt very misled. The day I went to Bliss Bridal to pick out my dress, I told the sales person my budget including alterations, which was between $1,200 and $1,500. She told me that was to...tally doable and that the store offers alterations. They knew my budget and said they would accommodate me. I found my dress and scheduled my alteration appointment with Bliss Bridal once the dress came in. My dress cost about $1,300. After I got fitted they told me I had to pay in advance, and that the alterations cost OVER $800! I was so upset considering this was a very simple dress which required very basic alterations such as taking up the straps and hemming the bottom. I was so upset and humiliated as I told them before what my budget was. They then told me "well we can go from a category 4* to a category 1* alteration" (I might have the categories mixed up not that it matters). There were three or four sales people behind the counter frowning at me the whole time. I felt so embarrassed. They reduced it to just under $700... I was still unhappy but I'd already taken off of work and thought they would do a good job. I had to go back and forth for fittings three times after the initial fitting due to several issues. The first time, the hem at the bottom was totally uneven and the straps did not appear to be altered at all. The second time, the straps were so tight I could barely squeeze my arms through them, and the back of the dress was still uneven in a section. Also, there was a lot of bunching of material under my arms where it should have been flush. Also, where she had added a pad for the breast was sticking out... The third time I went in was the week before my wedding... I was so nervous and upset that the dress would not be ready and humiliated that I spent so much money and taken so much time off of work for these fittings. They only offer fittings in the middle of the week during the day. The dress fitted well enough but if I am going to be honest, I was not totally satisfied especially after seeing pictures of myself at my reception... The straps still did not sit flush and bunched at points. If Bliss wants to charge a premium for alterations, the alterations should be of the highest quality. This was my reception dress, as I had a ceremony dress that I had altered at another location (which required way more work and only cost $250, I highly recommend Bee's Tailor in Kenner). I thought that since this was a nice store on Magazine Street I would not run into these kinds of problems. I felt extremely misled and had a lot of my time and money wasted.
