I had a pretty good experience with them in finding a bridesmaid dress for my friend’s wedding; I came into the NYC location 2 times because I was indecisive and the ladies there were more than happy to help me into tons of dresses there and we...re patient while I made a decision. I decided to use Brideside for bridesmaid dresses for my wedding because they offered better prices and more variety for dresses that could be tried on at department stores (for those who couldn’t make it to a Brideside location) than some of the other online/in person bridesmaid dress companies. They were again lovely to work with in person in terms of bridesmaids coming back multiple times to try on dresses.
However, in both instances, we felt really pushed to order all the dresses super early in one fell swoop— the reason given to us was that the manufacturer will need to cut the bridesmaid dresses from the same fabric so that they are all exactly the same. In both instances, the dresses arrived early, which was great! However, the pressure to order so quickly was definitely not needed at a time when brides are pulled in many directions to get things in order for the wedding. Additionally, in both instances, dresses were not all ordered at the same time or even all from Brideside (some from a department store and some from the manufacturer’s website). I found no real discernible difference between dresses not cut from the same fabric at the same time.
The main issue my bridesmaids had with this company boils down to the high rate of turnover in terms of employees at the NYC location. We had an associate working with us who then fell off in terms of communication and we were not informed by a manager until a little later. When this associate was working with us, her last few days (after being MIA prior to that) were not useful at all; she kept sending wrong approval forms to my MOH and my MOH got so fed up with incompetency that she found the dress for cheaper straight from the manufacturer and bought it from there. This associate also didn’t fully explain to another bridesmaid that there are no returns on dresses, so my bridesmaid bought a dress that she didn’t even try on prior for style (they were out of stock and couldn’t get their act together as promised to send her a box of comparable styles), which could have put her out money. Communication was well-intentioned but ultimately too oppressive when we needed time to make decisions and not coordinated enough when we were ready, which really left a sour taste in my bridesmaids’ mouths. Once a manager stepped in, things were quickly taken care of, but honestly, my bridesmaids found it easier to get dresses at department stores near them than to deal with the “middle man,” which really is what Brideside is, especially for those who do not live close to any of the few Brideside locations. It would be great and alleviate a lot of the poor email communication if there were more locations throughout the U.S. In reality, only 1/4 of my bridesmaids were feasibly able to make it to a Brideside location and for my bridesmaids to try on dresses, it cost $30 I believe per box of 3 dresses. I myself must have tried on 10+ dresses for my friend’s wedding, which could have added up quite quickly for my friends.
In short, this company is pretty good in person and in theory, but otherwise falls short of the mark remotely, and a lot of that likely has to do with high rate of turnover of employees at the NYC location.
