As a disclaimer, I did not end up buying my dress from Ceremony Boston, but it was not for any negative on their part (therefore, the price I listed is what I was quoted for the dress). I had something very specific in mind and was almost certa...in I would get a dress that I loved here, but when I went on one last trip to another store, I found exactly what I had been looking for originally. Even with that, it was still a hard decision, because the dress Alix found for me was so close to perfect, and actually quite similar to what I ended up choosing.
Alix, the owner, is lovely and relaxed. The space is warm and comfortable with just gorgeous light, which is really helpful when you take pictures to remember the dresses you tried on! She only has one customer in the store at a time and doesn't rush you or try to push you in any particular direction. She suggested some dresses to me based on things I told her I liked, but she didn't think twice when I asked to try on something in a totally different style. Her selection tends to be vintagy, but with a modern flair, ranging from etherial and flowy to glam to structured. She also has a great selection of accessories that she encourages you to try on with the dresses and really help complete the look.
My only qualm about Ceremony is that the selection is somewhat expensive. It's the higher end of what you would find at a national chain, but it's a steal for designer-quality. All the designs they carry are made by independent designers out of very high quality materials (no polyester), but that also means that there's really no bargaining on the price, because the price of the dress is really what it's worth.
Alix was also extremely nice and accommodating. When I wanted to come back to show the dress I liked to my mother, who was only in town for the weekend, Alix corresponded with my tirelessly via email to find a time last-minute. I think what was most helpful is she never said one particular dress looked better on me than another - if it didn't fit well, she would point that out and suggest either a different style or how it might need to be altered - but she never said whether she liked a particular style, which made it easier to speak my mind and get the opinions of the people who came with me.
I would highly recommend Ceremony if you are looking for something a little unusual and you live in the Boston area.
