I have mixed feelings about Chantilly Place. My dress was absolutely gorgeous, unique, and romantic, and I am so happy they carried it. I have Maggie Sottero more to thank for designing the amazing dress though, than the store. At my first appo...intment, I had to wait for quite a while after my scheduled time before anyone helped me, which I thought was rude. To be fair, there are really only two girls working here all the time (not including the seamstresses), so they both work really hard and often have to help many people at once. Having an appointment is not usually a guarantee of having one-on-one time with someone. After I tried on my first dress that my mom picked out, they brought me other dresses that they thought would look good on my body type and they were all beautiful and made my decision tough. In the end I went with the first dress, but they do know how to pick the right dresses for your shape. I am a size 16, full-figured girl, and many of the samples almost fit me, which was nice to be able to get a good feel for what it would really look like. They were also all very flattering. Even though they are in Lowell (not the nicest of cities,) they have many gorgeous gowns and nice designers. I did not expect to find my wedding gown here on my first day of looking and I did. They accidentally marked my dress with a tag that had a lower price than it was, and tried to charge us the real/ higher price, but my mom fought it and won. It was their mistake after all, and they should have honored the price they were advertising. It turned out that my dress had the option of purchasing a matching hair piece, made of the same fabric and flowers as my dress. This option was not presented to me by the store, but rather it was something I found out through my own research of accessories to go with the dress. I am so glad I found this out on my own, as I ordered it and it turned out to be perfect. Their service really varied. Sometimes they were helpful, and sometimes they weren’t. When I came in to try veils on, for example, they acted like I was bothering them. Then there was a whole fiasco with my veil where they told me it would take 4-6 weeks for it to be ready, and when I called after that time frame to check on it, they said it hadn’t been made or ordered yet. Then suddenly they had one ready for me, but it was the wrong color; it was white when my dress was light gold/ champagne. At first they tried to convince me the white veil went well with my dress, saying they were afraid to go darker for fear it might look too yellow. Luckily, they corrected the mistake after I told them I didn’t want my veil to be white, and they dyed the veil to match the dress. Once they corrected it, it matched my dress perfectly. One of the good things about Chantilly is that they actually do order you the right size. I have had experiences with other dress shops where they try to order bigger sizes just to make money off alterations. My dress fit perfectly when it came in and it just needed a hem and a little tightening around the chest. Their prices for alterations were reasonable and comparable to other wedding gown alterations, and the seamstress did a great job with the adjustments and the bustle. There was one thing that caused me unnecessary stress the week of the wedding. My hair piece was "lost" but then they found it. Overall, Chantilly Place is a store with a nice selection of wedding gowns at reasonable prices, and inconsistent service.
