Food + Catering
I’ll cover three aspects of our work with them: the venue itself, the service, and the food. A caveat: we knew we wanted to use this venue having been there before and knowing it was three blocks from our church, so it was the only one we visited. However, I can’t imagine being happier elsewhere! The venue itself has a unique, charming feel, Art Deco style. It’s not a sterile hotel ballroom--there is personality and design here. We liked that the dinner/dancing area could be curtained off from the cocktail/bar area so it really felt like two different spaces and made for a fun reveal when they opened up the room for dinner. We didn’t use the rooftop bar for our cocktail hour due to weather concerns but could have added (or cut) that up until the day before if we so chose. I loved having everything we needed to stage the event (dinner and cocktail tables and chairs, silverware, glassware, plates, bar, waitstaff) there. There is a HUGE selection of table linens that is included in the venue cost. They do not offer anything in terms of additional decorations except for votive candles, but they went way above and beyond working with the elements we provided or had from our florists. The decor exceeded our expectations, and was executed flawlessly. The price was very reasonable for the area. My husband liked that, being an actual bar besides, the Ballroom had a wide selection of beers on tap, and I appreciated not having to settle for Chardonnay only for the white wine. The appetizers and dinner food were AMAZING and delicious. We had the chicken meal which might seem like it would be bland or boring, but I would seriously love to have our meal again sometime! So good! (We also tasted a number of other dishes at our menu meeting, all of which were great.) Everyone raved about the food, and the cake, which was also made in house. The wait service was so attentive, as was the bar service. Finally, I have to give huge raves to Sandra, our primary contact. She really held our hands every step of the way and made a lot of very helpful suggestions. She understood what we were looking for when we asked for something, but if we didn’t know what we wanted, she could offer a few ideas. She also completely worked within our budget and in fact, calculated the bill in our favor at the end when it turned out that our bar bill was less on consumption than on a per person charge. From everything I could tell she worked very well with our only outside vendors (DJ and florist) as well. On the day of, she was there until the reception was well underway to make sure everything ran smoothly, and of course greeted us immediately when we arrived with a drink for each of us.
We just used the Clarendon Ballroom for our wedding reception. It was perfect! The venue is unique and spacious. The staff was wonderful. The food was fantastic. It was the perfect setting for our reception. The planning process was easy as well. Sandra helped us with ideas, reassured us of our concerns, and executed an amazing event. They are flexible and creative. We highly recommend the Ballroom as a venue. We had a fabulous experience!

We used the Clarendon Ballroom for both our wedding ceremony and reception. We looked at about 10-12 places between MD, DC and VA and chose the Clarendon because of the layout, size and the flexibility with the space and the fact that it had a rooftop deck where we could host our cocktail reception. We were planning for 150 people and our issue with most other places was that they were either too small, had too much of their own personality and it would have been difficult for us to execute our own ideas or they were completely bland. The ballroom was right in the middle with just a enough personality to truly compliment our direction without taking away from it. In addition, they handled the food, dessert and our specialty cupcakes. All of the food was amazing, the quality and the taste was outstanding. Plus their execution on our wedding day was flawless and everything was so beautiful. People are still commenting about the food, drinks and overall atmosphere. The catering staff was incredibly flexible and the Director of Catering was very insightful and responsive. We were planning our wedding from out of state so we had some special needs that she went out of her way to handle including being very flexible with our travel schedules and requests. We would recommend the Clarendon to anyone considering a wedding in the DC metro area.

The Ballroom was the second place we looked at for our February wedding and we were immediately smitten! Sandra Hoehne showed us around and was so professional and enthusiastic about our wedding we booked it right away. The Ballroom is a full service venue with catering that is wonderful (we had a mashed potato bar) and they cater in a cake too which was delicious. They provide chairs, tables, and of course a fully stocked bar! It was so much fun for all of our guests, the dance floor was more than enough room and the retro charm of the place with the wood floors, archways, and tin ceiling were exactly what I wanted for the feel of the wedding. Highly, highly recommended the Clarendon Ballroom for at least a look, and probable choice:)
