We met Mick at the San Diego Bridal Bazaar a few months before we got engaged. With my husband's best friend being from England, we were initially drawn in by the Union Jacks hanging at his booth and his "Elite British DJ" title. At the bazaar,... we were impressed by his approach. All other vendors were out in the aisles pushing flyers and papers on prospective customers while Mick was relaxed and staying in his booth speaking to folks that came to him. As we struck up a conversation, we appreciated that he approached weddings similarly... he said the wedding day is our day and he was there to work for the couple and do what the couple wants... it was not about the DJ being the center of attention during the reception. He said he had many happy clients whose reviews spoke for themselves so he didn't feel the need to push his services. He figured the right people who were interested in his services would come to him.
When we got engaged and the time came to choose a DJ, we contacted a few DJs, but Mick was the first one we met with. He was professional, creative, open, and honest about his services and his approach. His vast amount of experience and his online planning tool were both items we considered big pluses (particularly the "No play" list option). In our conversation, we came to find that his wife Julie was a wedding coordinator. Since we were looking for a coordinator, we met with her briefly and they sent us home with a packet of information and told us to contact them within the next week... very relaxed and low pressure. After weighing options, we decided to go with both of them... their packaged deals are definitely worth it!
We are Catholic so we only hired Mick for the reception, and are so glad we did! The planning process was smooth. We loved how Mick likes to have fun, unique memorable events during the reception... we used a few of his and threw a few news ones of our own at him... all together we had a Star Wars entrance complete with light sabers, a Flash Mob at the end of the best man speech, a boy band dance off, an alternative to the garter toss, and a few other very unique memorable moments. Mick did a great job combining our ideas with his and running everything so well. We were running behind after the toasts, but Mick adjusted things so that we could still get all the important events (cake cutting, bouquet throw, etc.) in before our photographer and videographer left and still have time left for dancing. We had SO many guests tell us it was the best wedding they've been to, the most fun wedding they've been to, a reception that was just very "us", and had several people ask us for the playlist because they enjoyed the music choices so much. People are still raving about the wedding 2 months later!
We were glad we picked Mick to DJ our reception, and would recommend you consider hiring both him and Julie for you wedding!
