AMAZING! Tammy and Sue were super responsive and accommodating of all our needs. Day of Sue was not there, but staff was very on top of things, making sure my husband and I had everything we needed. Sue even surprised us with the coolest display for our donut desserts. Food was overall amazing, guests were very impressed. Loved the taco appetizer with the mini margarita... those were a huge hit with the guests. They are definitely expensive, but the quality of service and food was worth the price. Would definitely recommend!
After speaking to a half-dozen potential caterers and reviewing their menus in July 2015 (about 11 months before our wedding date), Food Evolution was the front-runner for our business. Our initial conversation with Sue was excellent, and their food looked to be the best. Unfortunately, we never got to experience a tasting. We waited about 3 months for a proposal, but never received one (the other vendors we spoke with all delivered theirs within a few weeks). We weren't too concerned at first, as we received several email updates that it was their busy season and they were slammed. The next time we heard from them, it was to tell us that their fall tasting availability was starting to get limited, so we quickly chose one of the remaining dates in November. Several weeks before the tasting, we were asked to move from a noon tasting to an evening one. The date conflicted with my teaching schedule, so we had to decline. The next available date we were offered was January. Keeping in mind that we still had not received a proposal after the initial July conversation, we decided that the level of service we were receiving wasn't measuring up to our other options, and we decided to relieve ourselves of the stress of dealing with Food Evolution by choosing a different vendor.
I cannot say enough about how awesome Food Evolution is! From our tasting on, it was clear that Food Evolution is anything but a standard wedding caterer. They let us taste our food choices, plus had some extra suggested items to try, including what ended up being our signature cocktail! Their food choices are anything but the standard wedding caterer fare. Our personal favorites were the mini taco/mini margarita and mini chicken pot pie appetizers, and squash soup served in a hollowed-out squash. The food the day of the wedding tasted just as good as at our tasting. And all of our guests were just raving about the food. They also made mini pumpkin and apple pies for our dessert and supplied all of our s'mores-making supplies! Sue and her team were beyond helpful! And the food was memorable in the best way possible!
One word to describe working with Sue at Food Evolution is ‘trustworthy.’ From beginning to end I had all the confidence in the world that Sue was leading us in the right direction. That was especially important as we were planning our Chicago wedding from Connecticut. Sue and her team were great with our budget too. They really listened to us when we told them of our overall vision. Sue is also very connected to the area, so she was able to lead us to other great vendors. As wannabe foodies, Food Evolution was the perfect caterer for us. So many choices, and they are very flexible with their menu. Everything we ate the night of our wedding was amazing, and we got a lot of compliments on the food as well. The bulgogi tacos with mini patron margaritas during cocktail hour were a huge hit. We got married at the Harold Washington Library, so all of the food, tables, linens, ect had to be brought in and taken away (at the end of the night). No issues there either. We would highly recommend Food Evolution.
Food Evolution catered a wedding in our backyard this Sept 2016. Everything was fantastic: the set up, excellent food, service and coordination with all others (florist,DJ,photographer, etc) Sue coordinated the entire event expertly and professionally. She was a pleasure to work with.
Selecting a caterer for (arguably) the most important day of your life can be both arduous and taxing. My (now) wife and I are research junkies so after pouring over numerous reviews, comparing price points, service offerings, customer service, and myriad options, we finally settled on Food Evolution for our catering needs. We had a relatively smaller wedding (140 people) and were happy to see that the folks at Food Evolution could scale their menus appropriately without ever sacrificing quality or service level, the two factors most important to us. Working with Sue and Tammy was a true pleasure as they not only worked to tailor the menu and existing options to our requests, but also got to know us on a personal level, making the whole experience truly memorable and specific to our experiences and foodie adventures. Because we love traveling (and eating in equal measure), the Food Evolution team set up three stations for us based on our favorite trips and the cuisine we enjoyed at each. They were Chicago, San Francisco and Greece. For Chicago, Food Evolution prepared inspired takes on staples such as burgers (modeled after our favorite burger from DryHop Brewery), duck foie gras sliders, and fries. San Francisco was more Asian-fusion inspired with dishes ranging from grilled bass on seaweed, mini cartons of drunken noodles, and steak tartare. Greece (also our honeymoon destination) had build-your-own gyros, traditional Greek salad, and spanakopitas. The appetizers may have been the standout though. Numerous guests raved about the jumbo shrimp cocktail, mini tacos and margaritas, and lobster BLTs. The Food Evolution team worked seamlessly with our wedding coordinator to deploy servers throughout the evening and ensure that all guests were being served and had enough to eat. They even helped us to create our signature cocktails! Two Mad Men-inspired libations: the Don (a classic old fashioned with a few alternative twists including lemon instead of orange and Luxardo cherries) and the Joan (a gin and elderflower-infused beverage with lemon, served extra cold). If my wife and I were to get married again, there are certainly things that we would change. The one key component that we wouldn't is working with Tammy, Sue, and the whole Food Evolution team, who specialize in highly personalized and delicious catering experiences.
We got married on 6/4/2016, and hired Food Evolution for catering. Picking a caterer is a huge decision (and easily our biggest budget item). Even though Food Evolution was a little pricey, we are so glad we went with them! The whole team is professional and easy to work with. The tasting was just insane...they went above and beyond! The tasting is what really sold us. So many drinks, such delicious food. And they really know their wedding stuff! Our guests loved the food as well! If it's in your budget, I would HIGHLY recommend Food Evolution.
The food provided by Food Evolution was easily the best part of our entire wedding. Everyone raved to us during and afterward and it seems to be what our family and guests remember most. I'm gluten and dairy free and Sue did a fantastic job of making sure there was food I could enjoy alongside our guests. Even the tasting we did months back was an incredible experience. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone looking for amazing food for their wedding.
Absolutely loved working with Food Evolution! The entire experience was so wonderfully special from the over-the-top fabulous tasting, event coordination, and wedding dinner execution. The staff was truly superb. My husband, family, and I were so happy with the quality of food and service at our wedding. Guests are still talking about the mini-margartias! Would recommend to anyone!
We had the best experience with Food Evolution!!! Our reception venue had a list of preferred catering vendors so we naturally performed our due diligence on all of them and narrowed it down to about 6 to have initial discussions with and from then scheduled tastings with 4 caterers. From the very first conversation I had with Sue I felt totally comfortable and that she had our best interest in mind she suggested talking to other caterers and gave me some pointers about wedding planning I had never thought of (hadn't done this before!). Tammy and Sue were so responsive and would get back to me quickly with any questions I had big or small (and I had a lot). I never once doubted the level of service we would get from Food Evolution. After our initial discussions we has scheduled our tasting, Food Evolution was our 3rd of 4 tastings so we had an idea of what we liked and didn't like from other vendors. From the moment we walked in and I met Sue in person for the first time she was so caring and knowledgeable she was with us every step of the way, pretty sure she almost cried when I told them our engagement story. Just shows how involved they are and invested in the success of your wedding. The food at the tasting was AMAZING!!!!! We were beyond stuffed but of course kept eating everything they brought out because it was delicious. There was just more heart and soul put into their presentation, delivery and food than we felt at any other vendor. They were so accommodating if there was anything we wanted to change or switch out it was done with out question. We had a few favorites ,the mini tacos and margaritas (a HUGE hit), the soup in the apple (perfect for a fall wedding). The salmon and beef dishes were crowd pleasers as was the butternut squash ravioli (we tried all the food at the tasting and at the wedding too, delicious). Anyway, Food Evolution was definitely the front runner after our tastings, the food was spectacular and most importantly, we LOVED Sue and Tammy, we wanted them at the wedding. It was very important to us that we really got along and enjoyed the vendors we worked with on the most special day of our lives and Food Evolution was much more than a caterer, they helped with all sorts of logistics, floor plans, table layouts, place settings, linens, napkins, silverware, and well everything. They really felt like another mother / event planner which I loved!!! We did have some budget constraints we were working with and Sue was so accommodating and walked us through the whole process of what were are must haves and what we could maybe do without to make sure we didn't ever lose any quality of service or food. Flash forward to the weeks leading up to the wedding we had a final walkthrough with Sue at the reception venue and worked out our final details. Beth or contact who was on site with the Food Evolution team the day of the wedding met in person with us the week of the wedding to hand off some items for the wedding and made sure we had everything we needed and made us comfortable that everything would go off without a hitch, which it absolutely did!!!! It was beyond perfect and we are still smiling. I cannot thank you the Food Evolution team enough for all they did to execute the most magical perfect wedding experience and day for us. I would 100% recommend them and use them again for any catering needs.
Wedding May 23, 2015 My husband and I are real "foodies" from Ohio. When our daughter got engaged, our priorities for the reception were food and music. Our first tasting was with Sue and ? from Food Evolution. The food was fantastic, and Sue promised that if we selected their company for the reception, the food served that day would be just as good, the cold would be cold, the hot would be hot, and we would not be disappointed. We had more tastings, and all agreed on Food Evolution. Our guests have not stopped raving. Sue and the rest of the food staff at the wedding were professional, fun and a pleasure. And the food was inventive, perfectly prepared, and delicious. Thanks!
Thank you Food Evolution!!Reviewed on 10/09/2014
I had the MOST AMAZING experience with Food Evolution. Not only was the staff helpful, attentive and professional but the whole process working with Sue and team was wonderful. They totally held my hand from the time I emailed them about their services through to the delicious tasting and my wedding went off without a hitch! They were thoughtful, detail-oriented and executed everything exactly as planned. I still get compliments on the great menu, delicious food and the friendly staff from my guests and family. I would definitely recommend Food Evolution over any other catering company! Thank you Food Evolution for the greatest wedding ever!!
MADE MY WEDDING!Reviewed on 10/08/2014 Megan D
I wish I could give Food Evolution more than 5 starts - they were absolutely FANTASTIC and made our wedding the perfect day. Sue and Tammy took such great care of us. We got absolutely rave reviews from all our guests on food quality and creativity - they all said it was the best wedding food they've ever had. I would agree! We initially chose to work with Food Evolution because we met Sue and she was incredibly helpful, warm and friendly. Then we did our tasting which just confirmed we made the right decision. The food was fantastic and she had such cute and creative ideas for our appetizers (we served mini cocktails with all the appetizers). They executed on everything perfectly, were on top of any question/concern I had throughout the wedding planning process and acted as my day of coordinator. The day was seamless and I attribute that to Sue and her team - we could not be happier to have worked with them and to know Sue. Based on my research, the prices were very competitive and worth every penny. We would recommend them to everyone!!
fantastic food shameful serviceReviewed on 6/19/2013 Melissa E
What they say is true you can't get good food and good service from catering. Being in the hospitality industry we knew it was going to be difficult finding a catering service that would accommodate great in food and service. We thought we found the perfect fit with Food Evolution. The director ensured us of it all as we explained how important service was. Unfortunately she broke her promises as she guaranteed us she would be there to direct the service and she was not there and I could barely reach her the week of the big day. They were understaffed and could barely get on top of it. The staff was rude and snapped off to me when I asked one of them to clean up something on the dance floor that could result in an accident. They provided a cheese tray in my bridal suite that had MOLDY cheese on it. They forgot our waters and champagne as well. They were to serve waters and champagne before the ceremony, they didn't do that. They forgot to save the entire wedding party appetizers as we were away taking pictures and put in a special request to have them come after. They forgot to place our engraved champagne flutes on our table, forcing me to fetch them. Over all we did a lot more work in trying to get them to do what we had agreed on months before the service. We paid extra for services that were not met and were over all dissatisfied. The food was great but the company left a sour taste in our minds
Excellent Until the Day OfReviewed on 6/17/2013 Alli W
We were so incredibly excite to work with Food Evolution. They were the first tasting we had and we cancelled all others because we were blown away by the delicious food and excellent service. We had so much faith in Sue and our team-they seemed to be such professionals, be on top of things, we were constantly reminded how often and how well they put on weddings and that we didn't need to worry about a thing. However, the day of the wedding they were late getting things set up, things that were promised were not delivered on, we had an inexperienced bartender who was called in last minute (and told all the guests this) who wasn't able to get drinks out during cocktail hour to my guests, also-neither my husband or my food was served with the rest of the table because they didn't have record that the bride and groom received a duo plate. It was honestly such a pleasure to work with Food Evolution until the day of our wedding when it felt like it was one disappointment after another. I do have to say though, that the food was just as delicious the day of as it was at the tasting and the room looked great-it was more the service and set up that struggled as well as a total lack of communication that ended up leaving us truly disappointed.
You Will Regret Using This CompanyReviewed on 11/26/2012 Haley N
We hired Food Evolution for our wedding. They were a complete disaster. They failed to do the most important parts of their job on the day of the wedding. And in the days that followed, they failed to provide answers about what happened or adequately address our complaints. Food Evolution is a very small operation and they speak with confidence about their abilities. However, if you are having anything bigger than a very small event, and if your event space poses any unique challenges, do not use this company. They will be in over their head. They will fall short on service. And when you complain, they will ignore your request for answers. It is not worth the risk to hire this company for an event. For a full review visit yelp
our guests raved about the foodReviewed on 11/03/2012 Alyson B
Sue Waarich and her team at Food Evolution made our wedding taste amazing. We had a bit of a slow start with them: after an initial phone call that made me feel very positive about them, I had a hard time getting a returned phone call for almost a month. However, they made up for it in the end. When we finally sat down to do a tasting, Sue was attentive and the food was great. We wanted an Indian station, and when the saag paneer had too much cumin, we came back for a second tasting to get it right. We also got all of our rentals (chairs, tables, cutlery, plates, etc.) from FE. The staff was attentive and helpful at our wedding, and our guests went back for seconds and thirds (we had three food stations set up). So even if you have a slow start with them, they'll pull through and make your wedding day a good one!
Highly Recommend...Amazing!Reviewed on 5/19/2012 Kate C
Finding a caterer initially was a nightmare! After contacting several catering companies, I discovered Food Evolution and Sue Waarich. What a godsend! From the start, she was nothing but warm, friendly and helpful! Both my husband and I felt instantly at ease with her which was a major factor in our decision to use them for our wedding! The tasting was phenomenal. Sue truly took the time to discuss what we wanted and our vision for the day. Her recommendations were superb and she never tried to push us over our budget. Quite the contrary, she worked closely with my husband to get our costs to where we wanted them to be....right down to helping size down a few tables and advising us on purchasing our liquor(we were able to bring in our own). We had to bring everything in for our venue and Sue worked with us to ensure tables, chairs, linens, etc were ordered. Sue was there the day of the wedding and did wonders for calming me down! She attended to every last detail and made sure that my husband and I were taken care of and not bothered with small questions/issues from her team. Our day would not have been what it was without Sue and her team! Now, the food. Amazing! I have not stopped receiving compliments from our guests regarding how wonderful the food was! Definitely not your "typical wedding food." Sue took our vision and made it a reality and we could not be more thankful and happy! Our venue had hired a new onsite coordinator and Sue worked closely with her to make sure everything we wanted was taken care of(including things not technically within her role as catering manager). We are so happy we chose Food Evolution and would strongly recommend them to anyone looking for excellent food and exceptional service!
Yum!Reviewed on 3/26/2012 KMVF
We used Food Evolution as our caterer for our wedding on 3.17.2012. From the first tasting with Sue we were blown away. The food and service was impeccable. I was honestly a little worried that we were just seeing amazing things at the tasting and when it came to the wedding things might not live up to that standard, but believe me they did. The food was as delicious as it was at the tasting, and the service was amazing. We received several complements on the food, the taste, service and presentation. Our wedding was at a location where almost everything needed to be brought in. This at first seemed very overwhelming to me and I was concerned about how it would all pan out. When it came to that day I had no worries- Sue and her team were all over it. We HIGHLY recommend Food Evolution. They are great at what they do!
Food Evolution - delicious food, great serviceReviewed on 7/24/2011 Bridget O
Sue Waarich at Food Evolution made me feel like I was her own daughter getting married. She was very fun to work with, and very attentive to what we wanted. Food Evolution was very comfortable working in our venue, the Harold Washington Library, which made everything much easier. We were very impressed with our tasting. Sue was respectful of our budget and helped us trim down to stay within it. She also made minute changes to personalize things for us (down to the specifics of rearranging the butter pats!). At the reception, Sue herself paid careful attention to myself and my groom, as well as our families, making sure we had everything we wanted.
