Available for sessions in house, or at a location of your choice! Though based in downtown Harrisonburg, Friendly City Dance Room also offers off-site or virtual sessions for you to learn in the comfort of your own living room/practice space. Want something different for your wedding? We can help with father/daughter, mother/daughter dance options, bridesmaids/groomsmen group dances, and more! We even offer a unique service for wedding receptions, we can help your guests get moving with two short lessons and help them feel comfortable getting out on the floor and dancing for your reception! We even have a DJ service! Phillip founded Friendly City Dance Room with his wife in 2018 with the intention of helping people forge social connections through the art of dance. An experienced teacher with over nine years of professional experience, he is trained in a variety of dance styles including salsa, bachata, kizomba, swing, ballroom dances, and more. Phillip and his team are passionate about their job and love helping couples to bring their first-dance visions to life to create unforgettable memories together. They know that no two couples are alike and will tailor their lessons to fit your level experience and preferred dance style. Whether you are a seasoned pro or have two left feet, they will help you put your best foot forward on your special day.

When my fiance and I reached out to Friendly City Dance Room just a few months before our wedding, we had no idea what to expect. We weren't even sure if we could schedule lessons due to how close we already were to our wedding date. I spoke with Phil on the phone about what the process looks like when he works with couples who are preparing for their wedding. He was kind and helpful when providing the information about what his company offers. We figured out we would best fit with his 10-lesson package due to our time frame and level of experience with dancing. Phil an was easy-going, very knowledgeable, and friendly instructor, which made us feel comfortable with choosing Friendly City Dance Room to prepare for our wedding. Some things that really stand out about the overall experience that we had with this company were the flexibility with scheduling, individualized lessons, and the quality of instruction we received. Appointments were made after agreeing on what worked for both mine and my fiance's schedules and the instructor's availability. He made it easy for adaptations to the appointment times or days to be made when necessary, which was very helpful as the wedding got closer and more final meetings with vendors were taking place. Phil provided us with individualized lessons and pace based on our needs for each appointment. Phil knew that we were beginners in Kizomba with no background in dancing, so he made his lessons easy to follow and spent additional time in areas that were harder for us to ensure we felt comfortable before moving forward. At times he would ask for mine or my fiance's phone so that he could record us performing a certain step. Then he would ask us to continue practicing that step at home and use our own video as our guide to ensure we performed it correctly. The excellent quality of the instruction we received made us feel more confident with how we would be performing when it was time to dance in front of all of our family and friends. Our experience with Friendly City Dance Room and with our instructor Phil was better than we had even imagined. The fun we had with Kizomba lessons formed some of the most special memories leading up to our wedding. I would encourage anyone who wants to have a good time learning to dance to sign up with Friendly City Dance Room.
