About this vendor
Built after the Revolutionary War by the wealthy Madeira wine importer Henry Hill, this stunning four-story square brick house is the only free-standing Federal townhouse remaining in Society Hill. The house was named a National Historic Landmark in 1976.
With its commanding entrance and doorway fan transom, its impressive windows, grand proportions and classical lines, the Hill-Physick House is an exceptional example of the Federal style. Its stately and spacious interior rooms are decorated with outstanding examples of French-influenced Neoclassic furnishings, popular during the period. The lush city garden provides a perfect backdrop for your celebration, creating an atmosphere that is brimming with nature and history.

We had a wonderful experience with this venue! It was beautiful inside and out. The event coordinator, Megan, was fantastic in communicating everything. They were so kind and made ...
our big day fantastic. I truly couldn’t have imagined a better place for our intimate wedding.
We hosted a 60 person wedding at the Hill-Physick House in June 2024 and couldn't be happier with the experience. The historic home and garden were beautiful backdrops for our cere...
mony, reception, and photos. Though the weather was fortunately beautiful on our wedding day, we did end up using a tent over our tables for shade and it was gorgeous in the space. Megan was communicative, accomodating, and overall wonderful to work with as we planned our event. There are several required and/or preferred vendors, and we had amazing experiences working with them as well. We thought the cost was very reasonable for such a stunning venue.
We hosted a small spring wedding (40 people) at Hill Physick House and absolutely loved it. Megan was great to work with and very accommodating for last minute changes.

en was in full bloom by late may and complemented our floral choices perfectly.
The interior of the home is also quite photogenic and we were able to take some phenomenal photos in the space.
Hill-Physick ended up being a BYOB venue which (I think?) saved us money. I will caution that there is a limited number of catering companies you’re able to work with and I was a little stressed trying to contact one in order to reserve the space.
My husband and I had the most incredible experience at the Hill-Physick House! We originally had another wedding venue in Philadelphia booked, but after that venue got sold, we fou...
nd ourselves without a venue a mere 3 months before our wedding. Megan at Hill-Physick House was SO helpful - allowing us to do a video tour of the house/garden (we were planning our wedding from out of town) and then meeting with us in person when we could finally make the trip up to Philly. The quick switch up of venues went so smoothly. The day itself was perfect - the garden was GORGEOUS (an amazing addition to our flowers), the turf was a life-saver (as it had POURED rain the day before our wedding), and the garden itself was protected enough it felt private and quiet, despite being in the city. Our guest count was 75 people and fit perfectly outside. We cannot say enough good things about our experiences at HP House, from the planning to the wedding itself. 100% recommend.
We got married at the Hill Physick House in September, and it was such a perfect venue for us! The space was great for our group of about 60 people—plenty of space for everyone to ...
explore, but it never felt too big. The garden is super well maintained and beautiful (the grass is actually turf which meant there weren’t any muddy spots). We didn’t end up spending much time inside the house because we got perfect weather, but it’s charming and the museum upstairs is good entertainment for guests. The venue does require events to end at 9 because it’s in a residential area, but we wanted to have an after party anyways, so the earlier end time wasn’t a problem for us!
Also, we have to shout out the amazing Hill Physick event team. Megan was so easy to work with from the beginning and helped coordinate our different vendors seamlessly. She even let us use her setting spray when we realized that we forgot ours after getting to the venue! Definitely recommend Hill Physick if you’re looking for a small to mid size wedding venue!
This location was a dream for a garden wedding reception. We very comfortably fit 80 guests and catering station. And the venue photographs like a dream. Extra shoutout to Megan fo...
r going above and beyond to answer questions and help us find vendors.
We absolutely loved Hill-Physick for our small intimate September wedding! Megan was so incredibly helpful and patient throughout the planning process. We had a lot of questions as...
we were selecting a venue and Megan was always available to talk through everything we needed to know. The house and garden/yard is beautifully maintained and it truly was an amazing setting for our outdoor wedding ceremony and reception. Megan was also a big help in providing vendor recommendations which also helped make the day run so smoothy since they were familiar with the venue and how and where to set up and make things go off without a hitch. Megan was also organized and held a walkthrough with certain vendors to make sure the day we were all on the same page. We also appreciated that Megan was able to provide insight as to the floor plan that would work best for the ceremony, reception, and dancing as well as rain plan alternatives (which thankfully we did not need). We were able to have an absolutely amazing day at the Hill-Physick House with our family and closest friends and we would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a beautiful historic backdrop for their special event.
Absolutely gorgeous garden site on historic Society Hill. Garden holds about 100 people. Fabulous and spacious catering kitchen. Hill-Physick staff are super responsive and availab...
le. We hosted a rehearsal dinner for 100 people -- two big families! Only downside is the time limit of 9 PM to close down, but for a rehearsal dinner this was no problem. Many people went home and the rest adjourned to a nearby bar for a welcome party for all the out of town guests, mainly friends of the bride and groom arriving late anyway for a Saturday wedding. Inside space is very pretty and historic with high ceilings and beautiful rooms, but holds a smaller crowd (50? 60?). Their approved tent vendor did a splendid job, with a clear top tent and fairy lights. It couldn't have been better!

ourse of the year prior to the wedding, and misinformed on several key details. They also lost an expensive personal item and required that we work with an incompetent tent company. We were also rushed out of the venue in the pouring rain at the end of the wedding. The space was beautiful, yes, but you’ll tear your hair out trying to plan your wedding here. Hopefully they will take weddings more seriously and hire staff that can better handle future weddings.

of our many special requests. It was also so convenient to have a venue in the city, so our out of town guests didn't have to battle with getting to the suburbs in order to have the wedding in a historic home and garden. I definitely recommend Physick House!
