It has been 2 months since Catrina did not show up at my house to do my wedding make up. Sparing much of the details that I'm sure, in her rebuttal she will blame on me, she double booked herself, lied about it, tried to remedy it by forcing me... to do my makeup at 6am for a 4:30PM wedding, tried to ruin my day by backing out 6 days before my wedding, and sent another makeup artist last min then didn't show up and never apologized. Please, if you do not want to be stressed for the day of your wedding, DO NOT BOOK CATRINA. DO NOT go through what I did. I'm sure she will have her defense because every conversation she had an answer for every thing. Unfortunately, she did this 6 days before my wedding so I had no options. If I help one woman from not having this chaos prior to her wedding, I helped.
I took my time to write this review because I didn't want to be too upset before writing this. I found Catrina on the Knot and booked her. I didn't realize to do a trial prior to the booking, thinking you did a trial to figure out what make up you wanted to do the day of. My mistake. I want to be fair by saying Catrina is amazing at her skill, yet unprofessional. It started at my trial and just got worse. Her daughter ended up being in the house without a babysitter which ended up being very distracting. I will leave the details only my bridesmaids had to hear.Unfortunately, that was just the start of the chaos.
We set a time for her to be at the wedding the day of the trial. Catrina said she was flexible and not to worry and we would figure out the details as i talked to my photographer and planners. I kept Catrina in the loop via email. She said it would take 20-30 min per bridesmaid with her moms prep help and I take an hour. We originally said she would be there at 11AM, which seemed reasonable. Shortly after we spoke, I asked her if we could move the time since we were going to need to be ready a little earlier and Catrina decided around 8:30AM, which she admits to never writing down and said she can't be responsible for after emailing me about it. TWO WEEKS BEFORE the wedding she TEXTS me that my makeup was starting at 6AM. My wedding was at 4:30PM. Being backed into a contract (one she never signs by the way!), and the fear of not having someone to do my makeup I say ok. After talking to a ton of professionals, I tell her I need her there around 8-9am as we originally discussed. She tells me we can talk it through and to call her that evening at a set time. I call her, no answer. I call her again, her phone's off. I am in tears thinking the worst all night. The next day I text her and finally she calls me. She didn't apologize for not having the conversation the night before nor had any excuse for not answering or calling just that she didnt, *cough*, feel good. After 2 more phone calls, eventually, she finally admits that she has booked another event that day, threatens to back out and send me my deposit back 6 days prior to my wedding. Eventually she also blames being pregnant on some of the miscommunication. Which is fine, but you still have clients and have to act professionally.
Finally she says she can get someone else there at the original time frame and she would come later to do my makeup, but her other artist would come do a free trial the day before my wedding. With nothing else to do (sarcasm), I get my makeup trial done and my makeup is flaking off my face. In the end, I had makeup but..CATRINA WAS MY WORST WEDDING MISTAKE.
