EVERYONE complimented this VenueReviewed on 10/20/2014 Nicole S
What a breathtaking venue! Very little needs to be done at Raspberry Plain for a beautiful wedding. Maria and her husband, Brian, were incredibly warm and professional, offering great suggestions to enhance our and our guests’ experience. They allowed us to stay until everyone had a ride back (which ended up being about 30 or so minutes after the end of the reception), allowed us to pick up any leftovers the next day, and allowed me to drop off items and set things up ahead of time. Although I did not hire Maria as a coordinator, she was still at the venue on our wedding day to help out with everything. She really lets you make personal touches at Raspberry Plain for a more welcoming and personal wedding. I do suggest contacting them well ahead of your preferred wedding date, to increase your chances of booking (I booked a little more than one year ahead). I cannot count how many compliments I received for this venue and highly recommend booking your wedding there!
Raspberry PlainReviewed on 1/06/2014 Justine C
We has an extremely beautiful wedding at Raspberry Plain. We did the ceremony, cocktail, hours and reception indoors. The venue was beautiful and easily accommodated our 140 guests. Maria is very easy to work with and super accomidating. She made sure that everything went smoothly on our big day, I honestly didn't have to worry about anything that day. We hired her to be our day of coordinator and she took care of everything, we dropped things of the day before at the rehearsal and picked up our packed up car the day after the wedding. If you want to work with someone who will make you feel very special and cared for on your wedding day, you should choose Maria and Raspberry Plain.
Perfect Place to Get MarriedReviewed on 10/01/2013 Kathleen H
Easy to get to and easy to work with. A beautiful venue, that allows you to personalize. Very pleased with my choice to get married here--it was great!
Raspberry Plains-OverratedReviewed on 7/28/2013 CATHERINE M
While the venue is beautiful (however completely overpriced), the service is awful. If you look closely, the house is in desperate need of repairs and cleaning. It's completely infested by bugs, which the owner said is normal. Most venues clean and spray for bugs, so this is not an acceptable response The owner, Maria, is not flexible at all. She will not even allow moving items off preexisting tables for flowers, unless giving her more money. When asked to turn up the air conditioning, she acted put out to do so. Extra money is expected for day of coordination, which seems astronomical considering the rental fees. Most venues have someone to guide the day that is included in cost. Not to mention, why hire someone that is just going to undermine the things agreed on by the couple, in order to manipulate the day. Guests at the wedding were told they were not allowed to explore the gardens in the evening because they were closed. For the cost, guests should be allowed to stroll outside and enjoy the evening or at least get some fresh air off the Conservatory Doors were locked at the carriage house, which had been paid for for the day, because the owners did not want guests utilizing the extra bathroom in this room. Placement of items were chosen by the bride, event planner, and caterer, only to be moved and changed just before the wedding by Maria with no communication to the bride, caterer, or coordinator. This included not allowing for a second bar, moving the cake table, moving some of the personal decor items brought by the bride, and insulting how the catering company did their cocktail setup Extra money was paid for an extra hour for the reception, however the D.J. was given instructions by Maria to end the music at 10:30pm. Thus causing the farewell to happen 20 mins early, which resulted in the bride and groom waiting outside in the rain for their getaway car while their guests were leaving Maria's children were wondering the grounds late in the evening during the event. Maria's husband was very rude to guests and could be heard screaming at the catering staff while guests were leaving. Not to mention he yelled at the event coordinator about how guests disposing of items The carriage house carries a hefty cost and in the information given during your visit you are told you have it until the end of your event. However, the event coordinator was told at 8pm to empty the room for cleaning. When questioned about the contract, the owners response was she "had been flexible enough for the day." There were several more inconsistencies from what was promised and what was in contracts. The owner is very nice, polite, and promising upon initially meeting her. But, once she has your money and the event is underway, her demeanor completely changes. She wants you in and out as soon as possible, does not respond to simple requests (shouldn't the AC be pumped up anyway on a hot summer night!), and renigs on items agreed upon in the contract. Not sure how long she has been running this venue, but she obviously does not have the bride and groom's best interest in mind Overall, beautiful venue and many of the specifics could/would be overlooked by guests and the bride and groom. But, being an outsider at the wedding, these things screamed unprofessionalism and just all around rude behavior. The owner is completely unprofessional, a scam artist, and obviously only concerned about money and not running a top wedding venue
The PERFECT venue!Reviewed on 7/07/2013 Allie A
Words cannot begin to express my gratitude to Maria, owner of Raspberry Plain! Our wedding was absolutely perfect! We hired Maria as our wedding coordinator and she made sure that everything went smoothly! I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful, perfect wedding! Brides, book Raspberry Plain! You won't regret it!!
Beautiful Venue!Reviewed on 6/10/2013 Jacqueline J
The venue was absolutely beautiful and with all the candles and lights in the conservatory it was breathtaking! Maria, the owner was a great help and such a pleasant person to work with. I would recommend Raspberry Plain to any bride!
Excellent Venue for Wedding ReceptionReviewed on 5/18/2013 Vincent D
Raspberry Plain did a tremendous job with our daughter's wedding reception. Maria helped us plan the reception, provided a list of recommended vendors, gave us a tour and tips along the way, accommodated our special requests such as a personal tour for the groom's parents, and checked with us to make sure we were happy with the service from beginning to end. She was always responsive. Maria has performed many wedding receptions and knows her business well. She had great ideas to help us plan the reception and knows the trends. She also helped us organize the event and worked with the vendors to assure a seamless operation. The property is beautiful, including the grounds, the mansion, and the Grand Conservatory where the dinner and dance took place. She provides a list of vendors that are pre-screened for quality and value to assure a good event, and the vendors we used certainly lived up to her high standards. Things went very well, and we received many complements on the wedding reception. Maria was very pleasant, patient, accommodating, helpful, and caring. Everyone had a great time. We highly recommend Raspberry Plain and would definitely consider using them again.
Perfect venue for a perfect weddingReviewed on 10/30/2012 Michelle D
We had a wonderful experience with Raspberry Plain, and Maria was so accommodating! She helped up plan the entire event from start to finish so we wouldn't forget any minor details. The reception went off without a hitch thanks to her help! The venue itself is also beautiful and gives guests alot of different areas to walk around and enjoy the spectacular view of the mountains from the back porch. I would definitely recommend this site for anyone looking to have a memorable wedding day.
The PERFECT Vintage/ Romantic Wedding VenueReviewed on 8/13/2012 Joe R
INCREDIBLE!!! Maria was such a pleasure to work with. There is a genuineness surrounding her that we felt right off the bat. She wanted to do everything she could to make our wedding the best it could possibly be. From the moment we visited to the very end of the night, Maria was there to answer questions, fix problems, and act as a true "general" on our day. When the coordinator we hired disappeared at 6:30 p.m., Maria stepped in and took charge. The night ran smoothly because of her desire to follow through. The house itself is nestled on a gorgeous property that is perfect for taking pictures. You have the house itself, the gardens, the white fence, the fields.....Our photographer kept saying, "This is the type of venue I dream of as a photographer." Some of our amateur friends took pictures that turned out spectacularly against the backdrop- can't wait to see the professional ones. All our guests were literally floored with the beauty of the property, and many of our out-of-town guests said they'd never seen something so breathtaking. I could have done a 4-hour cocktail hour and loved every minute of that scene! The indoor reception area was just as spectacular. The giant windows gave us natural lighting and allowed us to enjoy the outdoors while being in the AC. You will not regret booking this venue- I guarantee it!!!
Beautiful VenueReviewed on 8/05/2012 Kristen C
Raspberry Plain was the one venue that didn't really list its pricing online so I was nervous even going to see the venue. I was afraid I would fall in love with it, but it be too exspensive. Luckily, they have events on Friday evenings which makes it a bit more affordable. There are lots of different pricing options that could fit anyone's needs. As soon as my fiance', now husband, and I walked into Raspberry Plain we knew that it was going to be where we got married. What attratced us most was all of different places on the premises that you could have your ceremony, cocktail hour, and recpetion. We were planning on having 150-200 people, and all the different spaces could easily accommodate that amount. We did the ceremony in the formal gardens, cocktail hour on the south lawn and throughout the mansion, and the reception in the grand conservatory. The formal gardens are beautiful and have a more intimate feel to them. The south lawn is in the back of the mansion were there is a white fence and mountains in the backdrop. I think what makes the grand conservatory so special is that it has practially floor to ceiling panaramic windows. You feel like you are outside without dealing the weather, bugs, etc...We also really liked their "plan b" if it ended up raining. Plan b was having the ceremony in the grand conservatory. The inside of the mansion is just as beautiful as the outside of the mansion. It has an old/rustic/vintage (not woodsy rustic) feel to it. Your photographer can get some AMAZING shots!! The owner also allows you to bring in whatever decorations you would like. This was a big bonus for me since I am a big diy person. Something that took us by surprise which we did not know until after we signed the contract was that you are not allowed to play amplified music outside. This was a bit of a bummer since my fiance' and I were not really into the whole traditional insturmental music. We ended up having to hire a harpist. It just would have been nice to know before signing the contract. My husbad and I got married on June 29th, 2012, which if anyone lives on the northern east coast knows that on that day it was about 115 degrees outside and we had a CRAZY and INSANE storm (the storm was towards the end of the reception...we lost power, but so did everyone else in VA, MD, and NJ so I don't blame the venue for that one). My bridal party and vendors were told to arrive at 3:00pm. Pictures were staring at 3:30 and the ceremony was supposed to start at 6:00. I was extremely disappointed that the air conditioning was not turned on until we arrived. Now although the storm was a huge suprise, the heat was not. Knowing how hot it was going to be, those air conditioners should have been turned on in the morning. I actually turned the one on that was in the bridal suite since the owner did not bother to go in and turn on it prior to me getting there. You can imagine how hot it was once my dress was on! The mansion and I NEVER cooled down. I will say the grand conservatory was nice and cool. Despite the heat and the air conditioning I absolutely loved it! The house itself and the decor went so nicely with the theme of our wedding. I would definitely reccommend checking it out.
Gorgeous but PriceyReviewed on 7/03/2012 Victoria M
We received many complements on the venue, it is absolutely stunning. We had a gorgeous day and were so lucky it was not too hot getting married in June. It did become warm when the dancing started and we were lucky to be able to open the doors, but I could see how it might be hot. We hired Maria as our day of wedding coordinator. I think she did most of the things we discussed however the tables weren't set the way we discussed. Not sure if that falls on her shoulders or the caterer. There are only 3 bathrooms for the whole venue and we had a line at times. One of the doors got stuck on the bathrooms and did get opened for a good 30 minutes. The house could definitely use some updates. I would recommend this venue to be used as the scenery is gorgeous and works for lovely outdoor photographs.
A Grand DayReviewed on 8/28/2011 Scott A
My daughter chose Raspberry Plain for her June 25, 2011 wedding. She and her now husband had attended a wedding at R. P. previously and there really wasn't any other place she wanted to see. The ambiance and setting fit them perfectly. Maria was great to work with, very accommodating and helpful in all aspects of planning the wedding. We had approx 150 guests. We re-arranged some of the decorations in the side rooms with pictures and some of our own flowers, and Maria set them up perfectly. The setting was beautiful, as the ceremony was outdoors, and the weather perfect. The photographic setting is beautiful, especially if there are flowers blooming and the backdrops are magnificent. The conservatory, especially when it got dark, was beautifully lit and we couldn't have hoped for a more beautiful experience. Judging from the comments and complements by the guests of the facility and the vendors we used, ( Maria provides and extensive list of vendors covering anything needed and researches for quality), everyone there would recommend Raspberry Plain to anyone looking for a grand place to have a wedding. Coincidentally, the couple that got married at Raspberry Plain that my daughter and her husband were guests were in attendance for their wedding and Maria remembered them. Their wedding was FOUR years before this one.. Would recommend to anyone!

We enjoyed every minute of our wedding at Raspberry Plain. Maria was easy to get in touch with during our months of planning and was extremely flexible and helpful the day of the wedding with her organization. The location is beautiful inside and outside with great views. There are several great places to take pictures too. We would highly recommend Raspberry Plain to anyone who wants an incredible wedding experience.
Beautiful VenueReviewed on 7/29/2011 Saby D
The venue is beautiful! It rained (IT POURED) on my wedding day but thanks to Maria everything worked out. I would have loved my wedding outside it's mainly the reason I picked it but everything worked out :) I can't complain we had a GREAT TIME!
WONDERFUL Venue. Your wedding will be perfect here!!!Reviewed on 6/03/2011 Jaime E
This venue is amazing-it's so beautiful. Everything inside the house is gorgeous and the views outside at the ceremony sites are fabulous. I had a beautiful ceremony facing the mountains and a gorgeous reception inside. The owner of the venue is extremely flexible, reliable and accomodating. She helped my mother and I through several conflicts and was very attentive to us and we knew she really cared about making my wedding special. She was also there to give advice and direction and was a set of helping hands the day of. She also has extensive knowledge of vendors in this industry and can help you select ones that fit your needs. My family and friends were so blown away by this venue and I heard chatter of interest in holding their weddings at the Raspberry Plain as well. I hope I get to go back as a guest sometime soon!!!
Amazing!!Reviewed on 10/05/2010 Laura K
I was incredibly happy with this venue. Maria Guerra is extremely helpful, has a great list of vendors, and is very flexible. Since she didn't have a Friday wedding she allowed us to bring all of our stuff the night before so the day of the wedding everything went off without a hitch. I highly recommend!!!!
Magical RomanceReviewed on 8/31/2010 Jill R
We had our fairytale wedding at Raspberry Plain. Even though we wanted to have an outdoor wedding, the weather didnt cooperate, and everything had to be moved inside. While I thought this would make things extremely chaotic, Maria aided my vendors in making my wedding absolutely magical. This old historic mansion is perfect for an outdoor wedding with a fantastic indoor backup plan. The rooms are decorated beautifully, saving you cost on flowers/decor. The conservatory was large enough for my 10 piece band and 180 guests. Maria is so great to work with, responding to emails/phone calls within the hour. I was able to arrive early for photographs, making the day as calm as possible. The only complaint I can think of was that the room was a bit hot during the ceremony. Within 30 minutes of telling Maria, the entire house cooled down. I HIGHLY recommend having your wedding at Raspberry Plain. Everything from the country, romantic setting to the amazing accommodations-you will have nothing but the perfect wedding.
Brides BewareReviewed on 8/19/2010 Melissa H
BRIDES BEWARE! Raspberry Plain is not what you think it is. The house and grounds are not very well cared for. Maria has decorated the house to her liking (she lives upstairs). The décor is not my taste so look around carefully before you sign a contract. There are a ton of cheap, plastic looking, fake flowers that are dusty. There are also many doilies and fabric teddy bears. Please be aware that if you ask Maria to move anything in her house she will charge you an astronomical amount of money. There are also 15 mismatched, fake, plastic-looking and dusty ficas trees in the conservatory. Moving fee: $500.00. She also wanted to charge us to move the dance floor from one part of the conservatory to another, but after severe haggling with our wedding planner, Maria relented. It should not take this kind of negotiation to achieve what we desire for our special day. There are 3 bathrooms on the main level. Maria is adamant that no one is allowed upstairs for any reason. With 150 guests and 30 staff, 3 bathrooms was not enough. People were always waiting in line all night long. In the middle of my reception Maria thought it was appropriate to bring her own children downstairs and “watch” the party. This was unacceptable! During my rehearsal, my mother-in-law was pulling weeds in the gardens because they were growing everywhere. The walkway out through the gardens is in desperate need of repair. Maria did not seem to care one bit about how the garden looked nor the service to her clients once she “had our money”. Additionally, despite all of her monetary demands when we wanted to rearrange the house to our liking, Maria did not have to decency to return our $1,500 security deposit on time. She had a full 30 days to do so, and finally returned the deposit 40 days after our wedding (after we, and our wedding planner had reminded her). She loves to act very sweet but beware she is not easy to work with. She is not flexible and she thinks her venue is the greatest thing Northern Virginia has to offer. Please note that because karma exists in the world, Maria’s venue will soon be surrounded by Van Metre homes that will line Raspberry Falls golf course. If I was doing it again…we NEVER would have signed a contract with Maria and Raspberry Plain.
