We had a great experience working with Jessica and SFCM musicians (we hired a string quartet for our wedding ceremony)! Jessica was friendly and responsive through the planning, and the quartet’s performance on the day was beautiful – we got lots of effusive feedback from our guests!
They did a great job, from the booking process and answering my questions to even talking via email beforehand with the guitarist regarding three special songs I requested. The music was beautiful, I wish it didn't go by so fast so I could just sit and enjoy it! Really really great job.
We hired a string trio from Music To Go for our June 2014 wedding and they were great! Erin K. was our group leader and she was very helpful - I wasn’t able to meet with her or the other trio members in person because I was living out of town, but we planned all the ceremony music over phone/email and she was always extremely responsive. Just a week before the wedding, my husband had a special request for the song he wanted himself & the groomsmen to walk in to, and the trio happily accommodated it.
The day of the wedding, the trio played for 30 min before the ceremony, played walk-in music during the ceremony, and then played both classical and cocktail music during the cocktail hour. The ceremony music was beautiful - and most importantly for me, the tempo of the song I walked in to was perfect. I didn’t get to hear the cocktail hour music, but I’ve heard rave reviews from friends who said it made for a great ambiance. I highly recommend Music To Go!
I was pleased with the ease of booking a pianist at a reasonable price through the conservatory. However, it wasn't until even the night before that sheet music was finalized. It is my understanding from guests that all the music was lovely.
We hired a string quartet for our March 2011 wedding from the Conservatory's Music To Go program. They have a system that they follow and I'm sure it works fine in most cases but we found it a little inflexible for our taste.
They have you pay a 50% deposit before listening to your group. The first time we listened, one of the musicians was 20min late and the 4th never showed. It was only supposed to be a 20min meeting (which itself was a point of contention -- how are we supposed to decide exactly what songs we want in 20min? They told us that would have to be a separate meeting and that we'd have to pay for it). The three musicians sounded OK so we decided to move forward.
Their repertoire list is a bit limited in that it is largely "typical wedding music." So, if you are really well versed in classical music and have specific pieces you'd like, I'd recommend going with a more flexible vendor. The Conservatory will arrange any piece you want but you will have to pay for the arranging and for the musicians to learn the piece.
At the wedding itself the musicians were professional and sounded great. No complaints with the end product, it was just a bit of a bumpy road.
very professional arrived on time played through dinner
