They gave my wedding dress lopsided seams that no other tailor could fix!
During my first fitting I had been thinking almost the entire time that I would leave with my dress and take it elsewhere. As a petite woman, I have had lots of items ta...ilored in my life and the fitting was not providing me with much confidence. At the end of the fitting, Michele came by and made some changes to my seamstress’s pinning, and I felt more optimistic about leaving my beautiful mermaid mikado gown that I fell in love with, with them. I paid up front for 4 fittings.
My second fitting came, and as soon as I put it on, I noticed the whole dress was pulling to the left side and needed to be pulled to the right with every move I made. I mentioned this about 10 times and it was denied by the seamstress over and over, then finally another employee came to weigh in. I was then advised that I should have a bridesmaid on point to do a dress check for me throughout my day. Pretty outrageous. But, not wanting to make a rash decision, I thought I’d leave and think about what I was going to do.
After thinking about it, I couldn’t even sit down in my dress - let alone take a deep breath. And they gave my beautiful dress UNEVEN SEAMS right before the mermaid flare! Picture attached.
The next day I decided to call Michele to pick up my unfinished dress and take it elsewhere. She said no refund would be given because the alterations were already done. Not even a partial refund, despite the fact that two fittings remained. If the alterations were already made, and only tweaks were left, then why was I needing to consistently pull and tug and twist at my dress and be completely unable to sit down? Is it bad work or because the alterations were not finished? Either would warrant at least a partial refund.
Michele offered to have me come in and try on the dress to see if they could make it right. I couldn’t do that based on my first two fittings. I would rather be out the money than chance leaving my dress with them for two more fittings. I ended up taking my dress to my longtime trusted tailor in northwest Philadelphia, to whom I should have taken it from the outset.
I swear Sew Pretty had better reviews when I booked my first appointment. I do not give my money, let alone $885 before anything is done, to places where the owner responds to negative reviews by blaming the customer and neither should you. Any money spent during wedding planning should be well thought out. You can find other tailors that will have you pay per fitting which feels fair. The tailor who completed my dress in the end told me that the previous tailor did a bad job, which I was well aware of. They charged me under $500 to finish my dress and that included ripping the seams and redoing the tailoring! The lopsided seams See Pretty did could not be fixed. I still ended up looking amazing in my dress and had a spectacular wedding day, despite the mistakes of this shop.
It is interesting that Sew Pretty would rather suffer loss of business from bad reviews than partially refund someone for doing irreversible damage to their wedding dress. I don’t like putting negativity out into the world, but I do hope my review saves another future bride the stress and money while planning their wedding.
