After going to many wedding dress stores, I was stunned when I went to Sew Pretty. The variety and quality are by far unmatched in the area. I was also shocked with how affordable the pieces were. Also, my dress had pockets! Everyone who came to the wedding not only commented on how beautiful it was but how much they loved that I had pockets for our tissues during the ceremony :) I highly recommend!!
Michelle and her staff helped me find my perfect gown FAST! They heard what I wanted, and by the third dress, I had found my wedding gown! When there was just one thing I wanted to change about it, Michelle instantly said "no problem! we make wedding dresses here, anything you want, we can make happen" and she did! In my one dress, I got 3 different looks thanks to the work of her amazing alteration team!
I came to Sew Pretty basically in tears as the bridal shop I purchased my dress from abruptly told me that they didn't have time to alter my gown. They recommended Sew Pretty, and I am SO happy they did. Not only was my bridal shop not able to do alterations, but they also ordered my dress in a size (or two!) too big for me. Yes, Sew Pretty was expensive for alterations like these, but I would not have trusted anyone else to essentially cut and remake my entire dress to fit me. Working with my bridal shop was a complete nightmare, but working with the seamstresses at Sew Pretty was the complete opposite. I knocked off one star because my dress went from being way too big to way too tight really fast, and it took 3 appointments for them to release it enough to where I could move my legs and sit down. They cut too much fabric off after the first fitting and ended up needing to add some in. Obviously this made me super nervous, but no one ever would've been able to tell. Even I couldn't tell! Only after that were we really able to address the minor details I wanted tweaked, so it got down to the wire. Nevertheless, I was still able to pick up my dress one week before my wedding. It fit like a GLOVE and I could not have asked for anything more. The seamstresses are so talented and I've never felt more beautiful wearing my dress! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I've gone to Michelle at Sew Pretty for many alterations and have always had a great experience. I turned to her for my wedding dress and couldn't be happier with the decision to do so. I went in for 3 fittings and she then held my dress until a couple of days prior to the wedding - living in Philly, I was so grateful and at ease knowing my dress was safe not stuffed into one of my small closets! She is so thorough and she fully understands the results a bride is looking for. My dress was beautiful and pressed perfectly. I will continue seeing Michelle for all of my alterations needs. I can't recommend her enough!
They gave my wedding dress lopsided seams that no other tailor could fix!
During my first fitting I had been thinking almost the entire time that I would leave with my dress and take it elsewhere. As a petite woman, I have had lots of items tailored in my life and the fitting was not providing me with much confidence. At the end of the fitting, Michele came by and made some changes to my seamstress’s pinning, and I felt more optimistic about leaving my beautiful mermaid mikado gown that I fell in love with, with them. I paid up front for 4 fittings.
My second fitting came, and as soon as I put it on, I noticed the whole dress was pulling to the left side and needed to be pulled to the right with every move I made. I mentioned this about 10 times and it was denied by the seamstress over and over, then finally another employee came to weigh in. I was then advised that I should have a bridesmaid on point to do a dress check for me throughout my day. Pretty outrageous. But, not wanting to make a rash decision, I thought I’d leave and think about what I was going to do.
After thinking about it, I couldn’t even sit down in my dress - let alone take a deep breath. And they gave my beautiful dress UNEVEN SEAMS right before the mermaid flare! Picture attached.
The next day I decided to call Michele to pick up my unfinished dress and take it elsewhere. She said no refund would be given because the alterations were already done. Not even a partial refund, despite the fact that two fittings remained. If the alterations were already made, and only tweaks were left, then why was I needing to consistently pull and tug and twist at my dress and be completely unable to sit down? Is it bad work or because the alterations were not finished? Either would warrant at least a partial refund.
Michele offered to have me come in and try on the dress to see if they could make it right. I couldn’t do that based on my first two fittings. I would rather be out the money than chance leaving my dress with them for two more fittings. I ended up taking my dress to my longtime trusted tailor in northwest Philadelphia, to whom I should have taken it from the outset.
I swear Sew Pretty had better reviews when I booked my first appointment. I do not give my money, let alone $885 before anything is done, to places where the owner responds to negative reviews by blaming the customer and neither should you. Any money spent during wedding planning should be well thought out. You can find other tailors that will have you pay per fitting which feels fair. The tailor who completed my dress in the end told me that the previous tailor did a bad job, which I was well aware of. They charged me under $500 to finish my dress and that included ripping the seams and redoing the tailoring! The lopsided seams See Pretty did could not be fixed. I still ended up looking amazing in my dress and had a spectacular wedding day, despite the mistakes of this shop.
It is interesting that Sew Pretty would rather suffer loss of business from bad reviews than partially refund someone for doing irreversible damage to their wedding dress. I don’t like putting negativity out into the world, but I do hope my review saves another future bride the stress and money while planning their wedding.
I used Sew Pretty for my dress alterations and they were WONDERFUL!!! Michelle did a fantastic job with my dress & all of the staff were so friendly and welcoming. I purchased a veil from them as well and they helped me to find one that matched well with my dress. I had such a great experience with them and highly recommend Sew Pretty for alterations!!
I went to Sew Pretty for my first dress appointment. Michelle was very attentive and easy to work with! She listened to what I had to say and I was able to try on many dresses during the hour long appointment. Michelle gave great advice on what could be done to any dresses and she knows her salon very well in order to pull dresses that I was interested in trying on.
Michelle, is an absolute live saver, would recommend this shop to everyone I know, she has made my experience extra special and super easy, and she is also very affordable.
I contacted Michele a few months ago to ask her about altering my wedding dress. I bought the dress online and needed it hemmed, a bustle added, and to have these weird floating bra pads removed. She was amazing both times I met with her. She explained what needed to be done to the dress, gave me bustle options, and also let me know what were the best color undergarments to wear under my dress. When I picked up my dress in early October she steamed it and my veil for me. I felt like a real bride for the first time trying the altered dress on in her shop (which is also beautiful). You will not regret seeking out Michele and her studio! The entire experience was lovely!!! I can't wait to wear my dress to my wedding and give Michele even more props (but with pictures attached). Seriously! Sew Pretty is the place to take your dress too! or even buy from! They have really pretty dresses there too!
As soon as I met Michele at Sew Pretty, I knew I wanted her working on my wedding dress. She really made all my dreams come true. She lined the top of my dress, added cups, hemmed the bottom, and added a 6 point bustle!..She even entirely reconstructed both sleeves 2 weeks before my wedding! She steamed the entire dress, stuffed it and put it on a bust for pick up 2 days before the wedding. People are still raving about my dress and the fit! She was always friendly, warm, and welcoming at all of our appointments and I will definitely be keeping in touch with her for any of my other alteration needs! For the most important dress you will ever wear, definitely head over to Michele and the Sew Pretty staff!!
Michelle and her team were great. So personable and great at what they do! She made my already-fabulous dress even more fabulous by adding a halter strap. I had feathers on my dress and when she did the hem she left the feathers a little longer so they were visible and flowed beautifully when I walked or danced. She had to do some last minute alterations since I lost some weight and it was done in just a few days! Everything was perfect. Thank you Michelle!!!
Michelle is a pleasure to work with and extremely meticulous, which is what you want in a seamstress! I was worried about all the challenges my dress presented (complicated bead work, body hugging fit, and about a 4 size difference between my top and bottom half) but Michelle handled it all easily. I love that you pay one price upfront no matter how many fittings you end up needing. I had 4 fittings which I think was quite a bit more than average, but my dress did have a lot of challenges and I was thrilled with how it turned out, it ended up fitting me like a glove. Michelle ended up letting out the hips, taking the the top quite a bit, sewing in a bra, adding a bustle, lifting the shoulders, and hemming the very intricate skirt, all of which was done flawlessly. I absolutely recommend Sew Pretty and will use them again for any formal events.
Michelle and the team were great! She made a lot of adjustments for me on my wedding gown, including adding on some material to make the straps not rub, adding a layer of crinoline underneath the dress to make it fluff out, and perfecting my silhouette by taking in and letting out the sides a couple times to make it fit and lay right. When I went to pick up the dress, she steamed it in no time. Highly recommend!
Michele did alterations on my wedding dress and working with her was incredible. She was so calming and knowledgeable that my stress levels immediately dropped and I was 100% confident she would make my dress perfect. And perfect it was! Her skill if top notch and absolutely affordable. Going directly to a seamstress can save monday rather than having it done by bridal gown store since they add on a percentage to the seamstress's fee in addition. Go with Michele and you won't regret it!
After purchasing my dress at Lovely Bride in Philadelphia, I was provided with a list of preferred vendors for alterations. Unfortunately, all of those vendors were located in Pennsylvania. Since I live in NJ, I was not too happy about the idea of having to cross the bridge every time I had a fitting. What if there was a rush emergency? That being said, I started to look for places in NJ. I am so happy I came across Sew Pretty, conveniently located in Haddonfield, NJ. Michelle, the owner, is incredibly easy to work with and best of all, she is sweet as could be. She actually made fittings fun! I loved being able to strut around the studio in my dress, admiring how perfectly it fit my body. All thanks to Michelle! Not only did my dress fit like a glove, but Michelle worked quickly. I only had 2 fittings before picking up my dress for my big day. It was perfectly pressed, packaged and hanging - ready to be worn. The reason for removing one star is because while everything was perfect, it was expensive. I understand you can't put a price on perfection, but as a bride already spending hundreds on a wedding, it was tough to swallow the additional costs of alterations, especially after already purchasing an expensive dress. If price is of no concern, I absolutely recommend Michelle and Sew Pretty Studio!
