The First Look
When it comes to weddings, forget ivory, cream and light pink. For some couples, it's all about green, and the greener, the better. Formerly a smog check center in the 1980s, SmogShoppe offers a hip and sustainable event venue with a convenient and central Southern California location.
Situated in the heart of the art and design district in Culver City, California, the 6,500-square-foot space relies on solar power for 100 percent of its energy needs and incorporates a number of other sustainable features and practices. Design elements include chic, eclectic décor and a myriad of living plants.
at SmogShoppe offers towering 15-foot ceilings, exposed beams, concrete flooring and stage-quality lighting. The room emanates a warm and comfortable ambience with vintage art and furniture, framed portraits, a bookcase filled with favorite titles and other fun curiosities.
line the venue's exterior walls. A secret sanctuary hidden amid the Los Angeles metropolis, SmogShoppe's roomy courtyard area makes a beautiful space for a ceremony, surrounded by over 2,000 square feet of greenery.

I wanted a different kind of wedding experience so I had my wedding reception at the smog shoppe and the actual ceremony at the Smog Shoppe Annex they own a few doors down. The whole experience was great. Kara, my point person was extremely thorough and helpful. The venue is very reasonably priced but after you secure the venue, you are required to hire their event management group to over see the event which adds an extra cost. You are also required to hire their preferred valet company. These two elements can take the total cost of the venue over 5,000.

It was a beautiful non-traditional indoor outdoor venue that was perfect for us as hipsters.
We had our wedding ceremony and reception at Smogshoppe late October 2016. From the first site visit, we really liked the vibe of place. We had 115 guests and our dinner was served family style. That number of guests felt right for us. Squeezing in more people is doable, but it would feel really tight. The venue rental fees are high, but it does come with tables, chairs, and lounge furniture, so you’ll have fewer headaches in terms of coordination of rentals. All the staff members we encountered at Smogshoppe are professional. The event director there is super! She’s really pleasant, friendly, helpful, and great about responding to e-mails promptly. The biggest downside for us about this venue is that you’re obligated to pay for valet parking services for your guests. Weddings are expensive and this added cost (and it’s not a nominal amount we’re talking about) is indeed annoying. Overall though, we still highly recommend Smogshoppe as a wedding venue. We had such a great time at our wedding and this venue played a huge part in that!
Amazin! My husband and I had the wedding of our dreams on Sept. 2, and I could not be happier with how the day went. SmogShoppe was absolute perfection. The whole planning process was easy and seamless, and the location is just gorgeous. Aside from how truly beautiful the space is, it was really important to have a venue that would let us stay past 10 p.m. That's surprisingly such a rarity! We had the venue until 2 a.m. (you get it for a full 12 hours, so you can decide). The team working there are such a collection of absolute pros. Shout out to Dana and Nicolette. Thank you for all your help and advice throughout the planning process! If you're not a banquet hall/golf course/country club kind of person and you want a venue that's unique, off the beaten path, but still genuinely, truly beautiful, check this place out. I've been in a lot of back and forth conversations with a lot venues, and this is the only one that had the perfect combo of gorgeous venue + reasonable prices + 12 hour rental that lets you stay past midnight (gasp!) + lets you choose your vendors + wonderfully accommodating, knowledgeable staff. We brought in all the vendors we loved, and had the wedding of our dreams. I'll always have a special place in my heart for SmogShoppe.
Generally the standard location rental for up to 100 guests runs about $8,300 for a Friday/Sunday and about $10,400 for a Saturday and this estimate includes costs for the rental of the property including its amenities and the required services of valet, site management, janitorial/trash hauling, kitchen rental, and furniture set up. This does not include your other essential event services like catering, bartending, coordinator/planner, etc.

Once we walked into the Smogshoppe we knew it was the one. We had our reception here and the flow of the floorplan and people that worked our event were great! We got so many compliments on the space and loved how everything turned out. Throughout the entire process, Lia, Helen and Dana were very responsive and professional. They answered all our questions in a timely manner. Dana was our event manager the day of and she was very involved and helped our wedding planner. I would recommend everyone in LA to take a look at this space as its a gem in the city.
Gorgeous venue and above and beyond staff.Reviewed on 7/27/2011 Caroline P
This place is spectacular! I fell in love the moment I saw it and knew I had to get married here. Everyone involved with this place is super professional and extremely nice. Our wedding was gorgeous and everything was placed exactly how we had asked. It is a little on the expensive side, but there are so many rentals you can skip because of all the stuff included in the price. Beautiful furniture from reclaimed wood, cute decor, and no need for extravagant flowers because the place is basically a giant hanging garden. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an eclectic and original venue for a wedding.

This venue made my wedding beautiful! It is magical at night when the sun starts to go down. It provides you and your guests a real indoor/outdoor feel. It ain't cheap. The costs really add up with all the mini charges here and there. They can be a bit pretentious and difficult. Its a breathtaking space (and they know it).
Serene eclectic wedding settingReviewed on 8/25/2010 christi c
Smogshoppe went above and beyond our expectations. We wanted a setting that had a garden feel but was also modern and unique. It has a lush cozy feeling with the vertical gardens, but it is mixed with eclectic art and furniture. The Large HD screen was also a plus. Everyone we worked with at the Smogshoppe was pleasant and helpful. All of the vendor recommendations were excellent as well. We booked our DJ, photographer & caterer through their preferred vendors. If you are looking for an intimate setting with artistic taste, Smogshoppe is a great choice.
