Mike was his assistant that night and he was great as well! All of our guests have told us how much they enjoyed the music (young and old)! wanted a DJ who did all of the intros for the Bridal party/events, but not one who MC’d too much. We met with Steven (the owner) and Brian (who DJ’d our wedding) about a month before the big day. Here we discussed everything we wanted, and the “play/do not play” lists. Steven and Brian were both professional and fun to work with at this meeting and seemed to be on the same page with us. Brian did a great job with the variety of songs he included at our wedding, as well as with volume of the music. He incorporated some classic oldies we requested for the older crowd for the first half. By the end, he was working it for the young crowd who was getting restless to party. But the one huge mistake: There are two album versions of our first dance song. We wrote the song name/artist down on our list for Brian and even included the album name (since the versions appear on different ones). We also specified on the list/at our meeting that the best way to distinguish it was that we wanted the version WITH trumpets in it. It’s slow and so much more dramatic/romantic, and we had a dance routine to go along with this specific version. At his request, we even sent the YouTube link/video of the right version in an email to Steven with all of this information again, and we called to confirm that he would pass it along to Brian as well. On the day of our wedding, we didn’t have time to sneak in the back to confirm with Brian again that he had the right song – it was our wedding day and details should be all taken care of and we trusted it would. When the Bridal party was lining up, I even asked him quickly if he had the trumpet version, and he quickly bounced back that he had whatever we sent him. Well, he didn’t (we double-checked our email). Our first dance began and the first thing me and my husband said to each other was “this is the WRONG song.” We are easy-going people and didn’t want to throw a scene or stop the song/dance that had already started and make people wait while we found the right version for him. The version he played is faster, shorter, and quirky with NO trumpets in it. I’m thankful my husband is great with following rhythms of songs – we had a shaky start with moves not lining up but after a sequence or two my husband was able to improvise, cut out several steps, and somehow work our routine into ending at the same time of this version of the song. It worked out okay in the end and no one else knew otherwise until we told them, but talk about frustrating. We communicated the specifics so many times (trumpets, man, c’mon now!). This shows a MAJOR lack of attention to detail, communication, and concern for the clients. We wanted our slow, romantic song and got a quirky, upbeat one instead. We really hope Soundsational works on this because we saw other reviews who also had this happen to them but we swore it wouldn’t to us because WE would specify more than others probably had. It didn’t matter. They were great to work with otherwise and if you have a first dance song that is off the radio with only ONE version, you’ll probably have a 4-5 star experience but the first dance song is SO important to couples and it wasn’t OUR song.

He was so in tune with what our guests wanted to listen to, that he was not only able to get them on the dance floor but he kept them there all night! We were able to enjoy our wedding as much as our guests did! We couldn't believe how quickly the night went, and wish we could do it again, we wouldn’t change a thing! The morning after all I heard was your wedding was the BEST WEDDING EVER, we even received a call from our venue telling us how amazing our entire wedding was including our vendors !... We HIGHLY recommend Soundsational DJ for any wedding or party!!!!!!!!! We just moved out of state and already contacted Steve to see if he would be willing to travel and DJ all of our future events! STEVE YOU ARE OUTSTANDING AT WHAT YOU DO!!!!!!!!!!

We also asked that he bring a DJ who could play Spanish music, that DJ was terrible. Steve got the crowd going but then there were periods during the reception where there was no dance music being played at all. When asked about this he blamed the venue. His song choices were questionable, therefore he never achieved the dance party feeling I was hoping for.

Our first dance song was a blend of two songs – the first part of the song was a slow song and then halfway through that song it was supposed to break out into a different/faster song that we had a choreographed salsa dance for. We approved Steve’s mix of the two songs about two weeks before the wedding via email. He made a perfect blend of the songs on his second try – instead he played the song from his first attempt that cut off a minute too early. We asked him to make an announcement at the end of dinner that “the bride & groom had unfinished business” and play just the portion of the faster 2nd song so we could do our choreographed dance. He had deleted the correct version of our first dance, so I had to leave the reception to go get my iPhone in the bridal suite so that he could use the sound file that he had emailed to me. I’m glad we still got to finish our dance, but it unfortunately it was a little anticlimactic because we already obviously had a breakout song and that surprise was totally ruined. 3. He forgot about the bouquet giveaway. In lieu of a bouquet toss, I did the anniversary dance with the intention of presenting my bouquet to the couple that has been together the longest (knowing that my 90 year old grandparents who have been married for 64 years would win). I was standing on the side of the dance floor, holding my bouquet, and waiting for Steve to either make the announcement himself or hand me the microphone - I was only about 6-8 feet away from my grandparents and the DJ (and I was the ONLY other person on the dance floor). Steve congratulated them on 64 years of marriage AND THEN WALKED AWAY. I literally had to run after him while yelling “wait wait wait” and he didn’t hear me until he had made it all the way to the other side of the dance floor. He gave me the microphone and I made a quick announcement about the bouquet giveaway, which my grandparents didn’t even hear because they were already starting to sit down at their table. It completely ruined the moment. 4. We asked him to play (exclusively) Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and big band music during dinner. He played oldies instead and only mixed in 3 Frank/Dean genre songs. What he did well: 1. He did abide by our must play & don’t play list. 2. The dance floor was packed and he played great music during the dancing portion of the reception. 3. Our best man told us about 5 days before the wedding that he was doing a slideshow during his speech and that he picked out two songs that wanted the DJ to play as background music during the slideshow. I emailed Steve about this and he was able to make it happen – even with the last minute notice. (Although he did play those two songs in the reverse order of how they were requested.) Overall, I think that he was unprepared for our wedding, and wasn't overly concerned with what we wanted. He was great with the music selection for dancing, but the mistakes that he made were big ones. As a result I would not recommend using this DJ service.

He took into consideration my theme of the night (carribean) and offered music suggestions keeping that category in mind. He played any requests I had prior and asked if he could take requests at the wedding itself, which he did, and played the songs requested. The party was awesome!!! Even our venue's manager complimented him and told us he doesn't normally take a business card from other vendors, but he got our dj's card that night because he liked him so much. My parents also commented on the volume, which was perfect, it was loud on the floor, but you were still able to hold a conversation at the tables. Also, normally he would ask for pictures from the bride and groom and put together a slide show to play during dinner. My cousin made a slideshow for us and he played hers instead. Again, he worked with us. Excellent choice!
