Sylvan Lake Lodge

opinion one of the best locations for a wedding in the Black Hills. However, this review reflects the staff behavior and overall lack of organization and consideration from the staff. The staff at Sylvan Lake who were working my wedding were all visibly intoxicated the day I got married, and were not available for myself or my family. This was also mentioned by several vendors, guests, and other people at my wedding that they also agreed the staff was intoxicated. To begin, my wedding tents (which were payed for in my contract) were never put out by staff. About 30 minutes before our ceremony started my own cousin had to run up the hill and grab the tent, which then my family and wedding guests had to help assemble. Talk about embarrassing. It was also noted in our contract that we would have champagne provided for my bridal party in the bridal tent, which was brought out 5 minutes before everyone walked down the aisle. They also forgot to put out the table for wedding programs and my remembrance photos that I spent a lot of time putting together. In addition to the ceremony mishaps, the wedding reception was also filled with mistakes. The staff was charging people for drinks even though we had a limit that I know for a fact was not reached. They also acted as though they didn't know we ordered an ice cream sundae bar and set out the ice cream completely frozen on the cake table which were heavy and in turn knocked over my wedding cake. Anything that could have gone wrong seemed to go wrong and coming from a bride who has grown up in the wedding business, I was not impressed and would not recommend this place for a wedding unless there was a change of staff. Overall, the goal at the end of the day was for my husband and I to be married, and it all worked out. But as far as wedding venue goes, Sylvan Lake Lodge did not hit the target. Especially for how much money they charge customers. The only good part of Sylvan Lake was the food. Many compliments to the chef and the overall buffet, it was delicious. I wish I were making up the other events of the day, but unfortunately this will always be my memory of my wedding day.

Lake Lodge worked countless hours to get the lodge, cabins and auditorium back up and running for our big day. Everything turned out perfect. The staff: very friendly & accommodating, the food: delicious, the venue: Gorgeous! The lodge/cabins: clean, comfortable, with a nice rustic feel. I would highly recommend this venue, especially to those that are looking for a location to have a great gathering of friends & families for your wedding weekend. * as for cost, this is very dependent of # of guests, which food you choose, bar, etc. Sylvan Lake does a great job of offering options in different price ranges!

perfect for me. They provided the venue for both the ceremony and the reception and catered the food. If you plan on getting married there, be prepared to have them cater the food because that is included in the contract. The per person rate was a little high but the venue rental rate is extremely low so it kind of balances out.
