Alvin's Kitchen (Great Smoky Mountain Catering Company) catered our wedding on March 17, 2018 and violated our signed contract in a number of ways. On May 30, 2017, we booked GSMCC for our wedding. After we paid our deposit, they had a change i...
n management. They took down the website and stopped answering calls and emails. I finally got in touch with Nene Franklin, the new manager. We signed a new contract with a good-faith discount due to their lack of communication, and we went through the contract point by point to make sure we were all on the same page with the details. Our venue coordinator (at Smithview Pavilion in Maryville, TN) also had a long conversation with Nene regarding the details. The company was supposed to be at the venue with everything set up and ready to go at 4:45 p.m. (the time of the guests' arrival), but they didn't arrived late and were still scrambling to get the food set out by the time dinner was served at 6 p.m. They were supposed to provide the glasses and mixers for the bar. The bar opened at 4:30, and because of the late arrival of the catering company, the bartender (who arrived on time, unlike the catering company) had no glasses to use until the caterer arrived. They didn't bring champagne flutes (we were charged $25), they didn't bring sausage and cheese for the bloody marys (we were charged $125), they didn't bring white buffet cloths for the buffet line (specified in contract), they didn't bring sandalwood colored napkins (specified in contract), they didn't have silverware prepared (venue staff rolled silverware in napkins because catering staff was unprepared), they did not set plates at tables as requested (so we weren't able to set wedding favors on plates, and many guests did not get favors), they didn't bring cake cutting utensils or china (specified in contract; our venue staff left the venue and bought plates and utensils for cake in order to cover up these problems), they didn't cut the cake because they claimed they didn't know how (cake cutting was specified in the contract), they didn't bring water, ice, or sugar (all specified in contract; venue staff again bought supplies to cover these mistakes), and the food was disastrously different from the menu descriptions. Quotes directly from contract: "Warm Cinnamon Rolls" looked and tasted like canned grocery store cinnamon rolls, and were not warm since they were late. "Sliced Honey Glazed Ham" looked and tasted like prepackaged grocery deli meat. "Southern Scrambled Eggs and Potato Casserole: Seasoned scrambled eggs with maple bacon and grated Idaho potatoes seasoned with a blend of green, black and pink peppers and smothered with melted sharp cheddar cheese." This was missing. Instead, they brought a tray of scalloped potatoes. It did not contain eggs, peppers, or bacon. "Sausage Gravy and Biscuits" were cold, hard, and difficult to eat. "Bacon and Cheddar Grits Quiche: This homemade quiche is outstanding. The cheddar grits become the crunchy crust and the bacon and creamy egg custard are cooked until lightly browned." This was also missing. Instead, they brought frozen reheated mini spinach quiches (some of which were still partially frozen). They contained no cheddar grits or bacon. Also, the company posted pictures of our wedding cakes (not made by them, thankfully) on their facebook page, as if claiming credit for them. I tried calling to discuss these problems, but they wouldn't answer my calls or emails.

Brides beware!!!! Do not use this caterer. They were difficult throughout the process and we should have known then that this was going to be awful. The menu sounded elegant and delicious, but this is what we got: canned sweet rolls from the re...
frigerator section of the grocery store, boxed scallop potatoes (the cheap box type) w/ cheese on top plus it was cold, cold hard biscuits, packaged ham slices that were a cheap store brand fatty and grizzley (that was supposed to be the glazed honeybaked type ham); THE FOOD WAS TERRIBLE!!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! They probably spent about $200 on food and charged us over $2000.... They did not put out the plates, or get there on time... They were late serving everything. OVERALL I can not say enough about the terrible job they did. I have rarely left a bad review in my life and try to give positive comments for businesses, but this business is a scam. Please beware. My daughter requested a refund or even a partial refund and the lady in the office NENE was very rude and offensive. Please be very careful this company is a scam, they go by the name of "Alvin's Kitchen" now and the new owner and chef are terrible. Please spread the word and protect your friends. Thanks!

This was by far the worst catered meal I have ever had. They completely ripped off my sister for her wedding. She was charged $2k for 100 people and the food was very low quality. The quiche were mini-quiche like the kind you get frozen at sam'...
s club and reheat. The cinnamon rolls were pillsbury from a can. The ham was clearly from a package of lunch meat and was not the "honey glazed ham" she was charged for. The sausage was cut up link sausages from a grocery store, not sausage patties like a restaurant or real caterer would have. The caterer showed up late, brought the wrong color napkins, and neglected to set the tables as promised.

Beware! Do not go here for your catering needs. Wa supposed to come 2 hours before the ceremony started to set up. Wedding was supposed to have started at 4 pm and they still had not shown up yet. I tried calling the number Casey had given me b...
ut the message said the number is n longer in service. For 2 hours, instead of me getting ready for my wedding, I was trying to figure out a way to reach them. They finally showed up at 4:15 in a rental van. The whole thing was so unprofessional. You will be very upset if you use their service! Unless you like stress on your wedding day!!!!!!

Casey was the only person in the area that seemed to do her job at the level of quality a wedding caterer should have. She was amazing and put my mind at ease always. The only problem I did have though which I suppose was a rather big problem u...
nfortunately, was that we had a buffet/serve yourself style wedding dinner and there was not enough food for everyone I ended up finding out. There were no extra surprise guests, I think I actually paid for more than came but some people didn't get a chance to eat :( 1 other issue was at the last minute without asking/confirming with us they changed the bread that an appetizer was on because it was to be left to be ate later in the night (didn't happen because not enough food was brought anyways) but if so they made an executive decision to change the dish which in the end I didn't like at all compared to the original. Again, Casey was amazing though but big issues when coming to a wedding.

This place was great! We had 50 people and only needed one attendant. The food was super yummy! The attendant was great, and helpful. They offered a s'more package to use at the bon fire which we didnt go with but I thought it was a great idea....
The man we interacted with was very accomadating and catered (no punn intended) to every need and desire we had, altering their menu and set meals to achieve our exact need! I loved their service. Definately would use them again and recommend them to others!
