On our wedding day, I had two bridal party members, my sweet 82-year-old Nana and myself, who needed their hair done. Ashley was on time and hit the ground running! First, I want to say that the communication with Ashley and transparency and timeline was amazing. I think the pricing was fair for onsite services.
My concerns with with the actual artists on the day. I think Michelle (hairdresser) was very ...
sweet and lovely, but inexperienced and did not deliver on what was asked.
I ended up doing a second hair trial (which Ashley did not charge me for, gratefully) because the first trial, my hair fell out within 1 hour of leaving. However, the actual hair I ended up with on my wedding day was more secure but looked like the first trial--- it didn't have the right braids, twists, volume and had way more 'wispies'. I was a bit stressed and pressed for time and didn't really look at my hair before I started getting dressed and it wasn't until later that I realized it wasn't what I wanted. I keep looking at my pictures a little disappointed and feeling less than really really beautiful. The hair bun thing she put in for volume was also exposed and my bridemaids had to fix it before and after pictures so this weird bun thing wouldn't show. In addition, most of my bridesmaids did not like their hair. They would show a picture and she would just do something pretty different from what was shown. I know you can't always do exactly what was in the picture, but if the picture has soft curls and you end up giving them a 1/2 updo... or the picture has two braids and you give one tiny, loose braid... those aren't similar. I know a few of my girls asked for changes, but we were on tight timeline. The assistant, Gabriella, was more responsive to hair and inspiration.
Jenna the makeup artist did a good job. I do wish she would have had the red lip at the trial, because it ended up being brighter than I would have liked and matte- which I would have preferred shiny. Once again, pressed for time, she just put on the lip, handed it to me and I left, there were no red lip options. I ended up using my own red lipstick later in the night.
I also want to note that a few of the girls makeup easily melted after pictures. It seemed mine was the only one that was well set.
Overall, I think Stylist Abroad has a bunch of different stylists and is a good, really kind company. I might recommend the company rank the Stylists on experience or give SPECIFIC portfolios to allow brides to pick who their stylists are based on who is available. Maybe "master" stylists cost more, but gives more transparency.

We are always happy to make any changes and accommodations to our clients per their request. However whether it is on a wedding day or at a trial if a cl...
ient does not request a change and seems happy then we have no reason to think that they are dissatisfied. Especially if they are asked their opinions on a look but don’t give us feedback to make changes. We encourage everyone to thoroughly look at the styles after they are created to let us know if any changes are to be made. There is buffer time in each time slot of the schedule along with designated touch up time at the end for any changes.
Every hairstyle and make up look is different on different heads and faces . We do recognize that there was a second trial because the first trial did not have the results that were desired but it should be noted that the second trial we gave to you completely free to make up for the inconvenience of needing a second trial. I’ve seen photos of both the first and second trial along with the inspiration photos and the second trial matched the photos that were presented. It should also be noted that when we as stylists, as the experts give advice about the way a style will turn out due to an individuals hair density, length, color etc. that choosing otherwise disregards that expertise in reference to quantity/size of braids etc.
You’re correct on the fact that Jenna did not have the requested lipstick at the trial but with thousands of shades and products on the market, sometimes we make special purchases for our clients to accommodate their very specific requests as we did in your case. Jenna made sure that you had the specific red lipstick that was discussed at the trial to be there on your wedding day. At the wedding if you had any concerns with the lipstick or any aspect of the makeup look we could have made modifications.
Our stylists are ranked by experienced based upon their pricing structure. The more expensive stylist have more experience. Michelle has many years of experience (hence her higher pricing) but perhaps she was not the best stylist for your wants. Upon your inquiry we present all the stylists available so that you can look through their portfolio and bio to see who resonates with you best. Sometimes individuals feel conflicted of choosing a stylist with less experience even if their style resonates with them more and instead choose a stylist with more experience who maybe doesn’t quite match what they want.
Again apologies for not feeling 100% satisfied as is our goal.

I did not have a traditional bridal party, so she created unique looks for my friends and family. They all looked stunning! page for The Stylist Abroad, I was drawn to how much LGBTQIA and diverse representation was present in the pictures and posts. And as simple as it sounds, I loved that the inquiry form asks about preferred pronouns. I was also super impressed that they used vegan and cruelty free products!
In my first conversation with Ashley, I could see how much she cared about giving each person a wonderful wedding experience that matches their style. After we talked about my style, Ashley was able to find a set of beautiful moon and star hair pieces that perfectly accessorized my updo. Ashley is also very responsive, which was crucial with our short timeline.
For the trial and our wedding day, I worked with Katelyn and she is such a talented and wonderful person! Katelyn asked a couple questions about how I pictured my wedding day look and she brought my vision to life. She accentuated all of my favorite features. I felt glamorous and got so many compliments!
As amazing as Katelyn’s skill was, the best part was how relaxed and special she made me feel. In all of the wedding day craziness, Katelyn created a peaceful environment and I was able to unwind, chat, and even have some good laughs that helped me get into the perfect mindset to absorb the beauty of the rest of the day.

Sarah was also able to creatively and beautifully work in a hair vine in one of the brides' (very long) hair, and the result was gorgeous. All throughout the day Sarah was just so pleasant and easygoing and made everyone feel at home through the whole hair process. We picked The Stylist Abroad in part because of their commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion and they lived up to it - we felt completely at ease and comfortable as a queer couple in all our interactions with both Ashley and Sarah. I decided to add extensions about a month before my wedding and it was the best decision I could have made. The extension option does cost more, but it is more than worth it.
COVID-19 put a load of extra stress on me and my now husband, but Ashley helped by not adding to that stress. Her communication prior to 10.10.2020 was excellent. And on the morning of 10.10.2020 she and my makeup artist were more than instrumental in making me and my bridesmaids feel pampered and beautiful. All of us had the best morning cause we were able to relax, enjoy, and have some fun before the smaller, socially distanced ceremony.
My husband and I are planning a larger vow renewal for next year to include everyone we couldn’t have this year due to COVID-19 and I wouldn’t hesitate to ask her again for her availability.

s not sure who in my family besides the bridal party would want their hair done. She sent me a draft schedule about a month out and effortlessly coordinated with the makeup team to deconflict the morning of schedule before the ceremony. The schedule was executed perfectly, we were all on time if not early and we had built in time for touch ups. As the bride, I was very at ease knowing everyone was on time for the ceremony!
As for our hair styles!! Everyone did a different look - up, down, and half. Everyone looked great and still looked great at the end of the night. Ashley was able to take all the different Pinterest ideas and make them become a reality. Ashley is well known in the DC area and it was great she was willing to come to Philly for my wedding. I absolutely loved my wedding look and we tweaked it a little bit over time as I couldn’t make up my mind by the time we had the hair trial. I would definitely ask a Ashley to do my hair again for any big event!!
