If you are thinking about having your wedding at the Sumner Mansion, look no further! After looking at many wonderful venues in Vermont, we decided on the Sumner Mansion Inn and have absolutely no regrets about it! Setting: Even though the Mansion is in the middle of... Read More downtown Hartland, it is up on a hill and feels secluded. When you are hanging out on the patio in the back or in the gorgeous library, you really feel like you are a world away! The entire place oozes elegance, class, and timelessness. The mansion makes for a great ceremony and reception place combined. For our wedding, we knew we wanted a place that had many options for both. We fell in love with the massive Sugar Maple in the yard that is ideal for a picturesque outdoor ceremony. However, knowing how temperamental the weather in Vermont can be, we also loved the library and solarium, which would also have made a great ceremony location. On the morning of our wedding it POURED outside, but by the 4:00 ceremony, the sun was shining and we were able to have the ceremony outside. Since we had about 90 guests, we had a tented wedding in the yard. The flow of the event went nicely since guests were able to go to the ceremony, hang out on the patio for cocktail hour, and then move into the tent for the reception. This was especially nice for some of our older relatives that have a hard time getting around. Overall, it is a super convenient and versatile space! The grounds are well kept and beautiful. It is not too far away from major highways, and there were hotels at different price points for guests in the area. The venue itself has plenty of parking as well. All of our guests positively gushed about the Mansion, and enjoyed exploring the grounds as the weekend went on. Owner: Ken, the owner, has a vision for the mansion. Every time we dropped into visit, Ken would have some news about what had changed and what his plans were for the future. He genuinely wants the people who are staying at or visiting the mansion to have an amazing time. Throughout our wedding weekend, he was both helpful and professional. Advice: As the vision and reality of your wedding change and shift in the months leading up to your day, be sure to keep Ken informed of any major changes you have. His primary concern is making sure that everything flows smoothly on the day of your wedding, and there are many logistical details that go into making sure the venue is ready. Having our wedding at the Sumner Mansion was the best decision we made for our wedding! We can’t wait to go back to visit!
