I rarely write negative reviews but after having the experience I did with Penna’s, I had to say something. We had scheduled a wedding date for the summer of 2020 back in the fall of 2019. Once COVID hit we were unsure leading up to spring/summ...er 2020 if the reception would happen at all but then things started to open up again which led to a meeting with Penna’s, specifically Mary Lou, to go over any Covid Guidelines Penna’s had along with easing any fears I had. What happened was the complete opposite. Back when we had this meeting a lot was still unknown with COVID, there were no vaccines, technically weddings weren’t even suppose to operate indoors but I think Penna’s was getting around this initially with it being a “restaurant,” so my fears for my elderly family and making sure if they chose to come to my wedding weren’t unfounded since so little was known and it was very new still. Instead of easing fears, I got a person who could not care less about me, my family or honestly my money, given the way I was spoken too. I was called the “worst bride” she ever met for asking if I could possibly have tables of 6 or 8 instead of the typical 10 or 12. She did not care about any restrictions or keeping her guests safe. What I asked wasn’t unreasonable- I wasn’t asking to get multiple rooms or more or less staff or anything like that. Just to make table numbers smaller and give me some sense and peace of mind that you cared about my guests. I was also told by her staff prior to the meeting that there would be no dancing or music. When I tried asking about that at the meeting she constantly talked over me, would barely let me get a question in and said not to listen to her own staff, that there were zero restrictions on music or guest count or anything. I got berated for asking about safety measures, being “reassured” they wouldn’t get in trouble by police because they “knew” them, only for Penna’s to call me a month later and say they had to shut down due to the restrictions they were so blatantly ignoring. Since then, I’ve had multiple friends from both my side and my husband’s side that have had similar experiences with Penna’s. One actually did end up switching his whole reception to a different venue because his experience with Penna’s was that bad. I honestly used to love going to Penna’s for events and for their food but after this experience I wouldn’t want to attend even as a guest. If you are considering Penna’s as a venue for your event, I truly implore you to find somewhere else unless you want to get torn down and treated like you and your guests are worth less than nothing. I would never do business with them again.
