This is a beautiful church to be married in! Wai'oli Hui'ia is a historical site on Kauai (over 100 years old) and located in the scenic Hanalei Bay.
We reached out directly to the church to arrange for our ceremony there. You will have to d...
o premarital counseling either where you live (recommended) or in person with Kahu Alpha Goto. It's smart in general to do premarital counseling, so we appreciated the requirement. Even if you're fully confident in your relationship, as we were, it doesn't hurt to see what premarital counseling has to offer. Mostly, it just validated what we already knew. :-)
The fees were quite reasonable - $250 to the church and $250 to the pastor. Since we were getting married on a Sunday and there are no janitorial services on the weekend, we paid $50 to have the church cleaned.
Kahu Alpha Goto and secretary Mary were very responsive to my many emails. They even sent me pictures of the inside because I wanted to be able to visualize everything. Kahu Alpha was also accommodating and conducted a rehearsal the evening before our wedding (around 6 pm). We landed the day before our wedding, so we appreciated his flexibility; otherwise, we would not have been able to rehearse!
Note that you will need to get ready / dressed somewhere else, but you can touch up your make-up in the Mission Hall. There is no air conditioning, so plan accordingly. Thankfully, the weather was cool during our wedding. All the windows were open and the fans were on, too.
Since the church is a tourist attraction, let Kahu Alpha know if you want a private ceremony, as we did. Kahu Alpha locked the doors so no one would walk in on our ceremony.
Music is not provided by the church, so we booked a violinist separately (Aowl Owen - he is amazing and takes requests; he can play any song!). We were incredibly pleased with our violinist and the acoustics in the church.
The grounds are gorgeous, and our wedding photos and bridal portraits turned out spectacular. (On a side note, book Jonathan Moeller for your photographer! You're welcome!)
All in all, planning a ceremony at Wai'oli Hui'ia church was easy (thanks to Kahu Alpha and Mary), and our wedding went without a hitch. Thank you for the perfect, most picturesque ceremony!

Gorgeous church and location - we were so thankful it didn't rain on our day even though the forecast stated a 90% chance of rainfall.
Keep in mind, wedding planners are not permitted to market this location. It needs to be privately booked...
by the bride and groom. If you are not a member of the church you have to pay a fee (quite reasonable). You also have to undergo marital counseling with Rev. Kahu Alpha before he agrees to marry you in the church. If you are doing a vow renewal, you need only pay your deposit and final balance the day-of.
The only issue with this church is that it has no air conditioning so it would be very hot in the summer.
