Callahan always dreamed of working and residing in the Siskiyou Mountains. After serving in World War II, he chiseled out a building site from the solid rock of the hillside. On March 23, 1947, Callahan's Café opened its doors for business. Eighteen years later, the venue had expanded and evolved into a ski lodge, reminiscent of how it looks today. In September 2020, Mark and Lisa Cleaner became just the third owners of Callahan's Mountain Lodge.
