A Barefoot Beachside Wedding at La Siesta Resort & Marina in Islamorada, Florida
Florida natives McKenzie Coburn (27 and a national accounts manager) and Chris Cherry (29 and a general contractor) threw their beachy boho-chic destination wedding at the laid-back La Siesta Resort & Marina in sunny Islamorada, Florida. “Our wedding was Florida through and through,” McKenzie says. “From the bright tropical flowers and the barefoot bridal party to the pineapple boutonnieres and endless Atlantic ocean, our wedding truly represented the natural beauty of southeastern Florida.” With its brightly colored cottages, towering palms and sandy beaches, La Siesta was the perfect place for the couple to tie the knot. “We kind of just took it over for the weekend with all our friends and family booking the majority of the rooms,” McKenzie says of their Labor Day weekend nuptials, which also happened to fall on her parents’ 37th anniversary. The couple decked out their oceanside venue with crisp white linens, tropical plants and romantic string lights. The couple’s waterfront ceremony looked boho beach chic with gold chiavari chairs, bromeliads lining the aisle and a wedding arch covered in green Monstera leaves. “McKenzie walked down the aisle to the song that I proposed to, ‘Te Amo’ by Trevor Hall,” Chris says. “We knew the first time we heard it, years before, that it was our song. I imagined the moment of her walking down the aisle many times in my head, always with that song playing.” During the couple’s oceanfront reception, laid-back happy songs by Michael Franti, SOJA and Zac Brown Band serenaded guests as they dined on snapper ceviche, conch fritters, grilled mahi-mahi and key lime pie. “Getting married in an open space with the stars above and sand below was important to us,” McKenzie says. —Marissa Hermanson
