A Black-Tie Ballroom Wedding at Merchants Exchange Building in San Francisco, California
With dark wooden architecture, geometric-patterned carpeting and a grand white stone fireplace—not to mention large windows revealing breathtaking views of San Francisco, California—the ballroom at the Merchants Exchange Building was nothing short of elegant for this classic, black-tie occasion. “I had a vision that I wanted the evening to be elegant and classic, but a regular ballroom with a beautiful interior would not be enough,” Jessica Ivry (29 and an architect) says of her marriage to Colin Willemsen (29 and a physical therapist). “The Julia Morgan Ballroom is on the 15th floor, with windows showcasing downtown San Francisco. It was perfect for a winter wedding." The evening started with the ceremony, where Nightingale Photography captured the chiavari chairs draped in leafy garlands that faced the stone fireplace where Jessica and Colin were married. Keeping the attire classy and formal, the bridesmaids were dressed in strapless long, black dresses by Monique Lhuillier, while the groomsmen matched Colin in black tuxedos by Tommy Hilfiger. Your Event by Erin helped transform the ballroom for the reception with dining tables dressed in white, decorated with a variety of purple flowers in elegant gold vases. We fell in love with the ivory Vera Wang strapless wedding dress (just like Jessica did), which had silk stripes going all the way down the gown, ending with a train in the back. "With an idea of a winter wedding, it was easy to see how many of the gorgeous gowns could work for my wedding, but I fell in love with one in particular," Jessica says. "I kept this dress in mind, and once a few more decisions had been made, we were back at Vera Wang and I was back in my dress."
