A Bohemian Backyard Wedding at a Private Residence in Franklin, New Hampshire

Nicole Holguin (35 and a physician) and Dor Aharony (35 and an electrical engineer) whisked their family and friends off to New Hampshire’s scenic countryside for a bohemian bash rich in vibrant color and a touch of old-world flair. “We love to hike and camp and have spent many summers together in New Hampshire,” Nicole says. “We wanted to have a weekend celebration where our guests could camp and enjoy the scenic countryside.” Quaint meadows and lush forest surrounding the private home where the festivities unfolded provided a striking natural backdrop for the affair, the vast expanse of green allowing Lotus Floral’s brilliant bouquets of pink, yellow, coral and red blooms to come to life. Taking advantage of the scenery and the perfect summer weather, Nicole and Dor hosted all the day’s events outdoors, beginning with a custom gender-neutral Jewish ceremony on the lawn. The couple exchanged vows under a handcrafted birch chuppah draped in full peonies, verdant greenery and playful king proteas. “One of the flowers I requested was the bird of paradise. It was the first flower I gave Dor as a gift and also happens to be a flower that grows in Israel, where he is from,” Nicole says. After their “I dos,” Nicole and Dor kicked off the evening’s celebrations with a cocktail hour by the pool at sunset. Dinner followed on the lawn, a Mediterranean feast served atop long farm-style tables adorned with bright printed table runners, arrangements of colorful wildflowers and vintage stemware that brought an air of eclectic charm to the tablescapes. “I spent the year before collecting different-colored glass goblets and vintage brass candleholders for the table decorations. The tables also had large floral centerpieces and vintage brown bottles filled with flowers and feathers,” Nicole says. The evening then transitioned to a full-on dance party, with a close friend taking the helm at the turntable, churning out hits that got everyone up on their feet and out onto the dance floor. A tip from Nicole and Dor: “Don’t worry too much about the details. Most of all, enjoy the process and the time you get to spend together expressing your style and love for each other.” —Libby MacCarthy
