Guests were transported back in time to California in the 1960s at this bohemian-chic wedding with a beach twist, decorated in almost all DIY details. Dewi Mertha (25 and an interactive designer) and Colin Simpson (28 and a senior designer) both shared a love for surfing and the ocean, so they had their ceremony at J Street Viewpoint Park in Encinitas, California, which overlooked the Swamis beach. Inspired by San Diego’s native succulents, Dewi and her bridesmaids wore handmade flower crowns down the aisle while Colin and his groomsmen had green succulent boutonnieres. An ivory, flowing dress accented with a gold leaf pattern around the waist was the attire of choice for Dewi, purchased at a consignment shop called Dahlia Bridal in San Diego, California. After vows had been spoken, the wedding was moved to a home they had rented out in town for their backyard reception, surrounded by eucalyptus trees, a tire swing and a treehouse, captured by JMfoto Photography. Out of all the DIY details inspired by vintage California, we loved the personalized CD wedding favors with an octopus cover designed by Colin. “Colin designed, illustrated, and packaged custom CDs for all wedding guests to take away,” the couple says. “The music on the CD are a collection of our favorite love songs, and from special concerts we attended on dates.”

Pearl and Wood Wedding Rings
The vintage, beach-inspired wedding invitations were ivory and teal blue accented with nautical designs.
"The bridesmaids wore a light coral dress of their choosing and baby's breath flower crowns made by the bride's mother and aunts," the couple says.
Colin had a succulent and baby's breath wrapped boutonniere pinned to his light gray jacket.
Dewi held a DIY lush bouquet filled with peach roses, green succulents and white stock.
Dewi wore an ivory wedding dress with a V-neck and a gold leaf design accenting the waistline.
The couple painted the custom-designed black and white bean bag toss for guests to play at the reception.
Succulent and Grass Covered Sign
A large conch shell surrounded by gold vases with succulents decorated the dining tables dressed in burlap runners.
For wedding favors, Colin designed a cover with a sketch of an octopus that contained a burned CD of the couple's favorite songs.
Colin wore a light gray suit with a blue tie on the wedding day.
