A Bohemian Beach-Inspired Wedding at a Private Residence in Encinitas, California

Guests were transported back in time to California in the 1960s at this bohemian-chic wedding with a beach twist, decorated in almost all DIY details. Dewi Mertha (25 and an interactive designer) and Colin Simpson (28 and a senior designer) both shared a love for surfing and the ocean, so they had their ceremony at J Street Viewpoint Park in Encinitas, California, which overlooked the Swamis beach. Inspired by San Diego’s native succulents, Dewi and her bridesmaids wore handmade flower crowns down the aisle while Colin and his groomsmen had green succulent boutonnieres. An ivory, flowing dress accented with a gold leaf pattern around the waist was the attire of choice for Dewi, purchased at a consignment shop called Dahlia Bridal in San Diego, California. After vows had been spoken, the wedding was moved to a home they had rented out in town for their backyard reception, surrounded by eucalyptus trees, a tire swing and a treehouse, captured by JMfoto Photography. Out of all the DIY details inspired by vintage California, we loved the personalized CD wedding favors with an octopus cover designed by Colin. “Colin designed, illustrated, and packaged custom CDs for all wedding guests to take away,” the couple says. “The music on the CD are a collection of our favorite love songs, and from special concerts we attended on dates.”
