A Bohemian Farm Wedding at Cherry Basket Farm in Northport, Michigan
Newlyweds Brittany Safford (26 an a neonatal nurse) and Philip Poll (31 and an engineer) met through Philip's younger sister – who just so happened to be Brittany's best friend! "After years of nothing but friendship, we reunited at a dinner that led to an evening of witty banter," the bride says. "One week later, I told him I'd marry him and against all logic, we dated long distance until I moved to Columbus to be with him." The proposal came a year later while the couple was vacationing in northern Michigan with friends and family. "We loaded up our boat and despite four-foot waves, Phil knelt down on one knee and presented me with the most beautiful gold ring," Brittany says. "We celebrated with champagne on the boat and returned home to a celebratory engagement dinner with my family." For their bohemian farm wedding in Northport, the couple incorporated natural elements – like a driftwood wedding arch and antler centerpieces – for a day that was relaxed, yet romantic. "We used a lot of vintage bottles, antlers and gold wherever we could," the bride says. "We spray painted tiny plastic animals to make our escort cards and even handmade dream catchers for the ceremony." A large piece of driftwood was even repurposed to create a rustic wedding arch for the couple's outdoor ceremony. "The wood was found by my brother-in-law on the beach a few days after we got engaged," Brittany says. "It was our last night of vacation and he came back from the beach dragging it behind him. Knowing how much we love reclaiming things, he handed it to us and said 'This is your wedding present, you're welcome.'" After tying the knot in an outdoor ceremony nestled at the edge of the woods, the couple drove off in their 1977 Ford Bronco while guests enjoyed signature cherry mojitos (made with fresh ingredients from the farm!) prior to the start of the reception. There, friends and family snacked on Lake Michigan whitefish and appetizers along with a homemade strawberry cream cake courtesy of Phil's aunt. "We wanted to show our guests an amazing time while still enjoying the things we love the most," Brittany says. "Ultimately, we just wanted the entire day to feel comfortable and laid back."
