A Bright Bohemian Wedding at the Santa Barbara Zoo in Santa Barbara, California
With their relationship born out of a shared love of animals, Jessica McIntosh and Bryan Gilbreath chose the lush Santa Barbara Zoo to serve as the backdrop for their spring nuptials. While the tropical gardens filled with vibrant florals and swaying palm trees offered an alluring setting for the affair, it was the unique opportunity to interact with the zoo’s residents that sealed the deal for Jessica and Bryan. The pair chose four animal encounters that they felt defined their relationship, including a stint with a giant tortoise and a mated pair of Macaws that have been together for 47 years! “We specifically asked for a mated pair because we love the symbolism,” Jessica says. “In the beginning of our relationship, we bonded over the fact that we both have a Snow White effect with animals, particularly birds. It was our animal-loving hearts’ dream come true!” Drawing on the zoo’s natural, wild vibe, the pair partnered with Best Day Ever Floral Design to fill the event with bold tropical blooms. Bundles of bright king proteas, ranunculus, peonies, bird of paradise and roses surrounded by textured palm leaves and monstera popped against the verdant landscape and brought a festive flair to the décor. Gilded animal accents played up the event’s fauna focus, while deep blue and purple watercolor stationery brought a modern, bohemian vibe to the festivities. Fashion was another area where the couple let their imaginations run wild. Ditching traditional down-the-aisle duds, Bryan donned a jazzy dusty-purple tux and gold bow tie.
