A Bright Garden Wedding at 128 South in Wilmington, North Carolina

Lindsey Suggs (25 and an account manager) and Joshua Carter (30 and a personal trainer) planned a vibrant, garden-inspired soiree for their spring wedding in Wilmington, NC. “Josh proposed to me in Airlie Gardens because he knew how much I loved flowers and gardens,” says Lindsey, “so naturally, to make things full circle, I wanted to to be married in a garden.”

Tucked away in downtown Wilimington, The Atrium by Ligon Flynn offered the intimate, secret garden feel Lindsey and Joshua were after. Fresh florals and foliage, a koi pond and elegant brick masonry won the couple over instantly. “Decorating the Atrium was very simple because it already had so much character,” says Lindsey. “We added candlelit lanterns along the walkway, draped Edison lights above our guests and, one of my personal favorite touches, a floral chandelier.”

After saying their “I do’s,” the newlyweds whisked guests off to 128 South for the reception. To ensure a cohesive feel throughout the day, the couple continued the garden-inspired aesthetic that characterized the ceremony decor. They worked with a bright palette of green, fuchsia and coral hues and dressed the tables with lush arrangements of daisies, hydrangeas, wildflowers and more. “The back deck served as our dancing room, so we were able to dance the night away overlooking the USS North Carolina Battleship and the Cape Fear River,” says Lindsey.

One of Lindsey’s favorite moments from the evening came as a total surprise. “Josh, being the romantic that he is, surprised me at our reception by singing to me,” says Lindsey. “I knew he had a guitar, but he never really played it around me except strumming a few chords. He used the last few weeks before the wedding to practice Nat King Cole’s ‘Love’ when I wasn’t home. So imagine my surprise when he grabbed the microphone and serenaded me!”

A tip for the taking from Lindsey: “Make sure to enjoy your day! There is so much time and effort that goes into planning your wedding and you only get one day to celebrate. It goes by so quickly, so make sure to enjoy it!”
