A Casual Backyard Wedding at a Private Residence on Lake Minnetonka in Minnetonka, Minnesota

Sarah Newberry (37 and a music therapist) and Mark Donovan (46 and a maintenance supervisor) met on Facebook through a mutual friend who invited them online to a record sale. After posting a status; 'Now taking applications for the position of boyfriend. Primary responsibilities include washing dishes, holding my dog while I cut his nails, and kissing,' Mark couldn't resist, and sent Sarah a message titled 'application'. He proposed by asking Sarah if she needed to use the restroom before he did, and in the bathroom, he had written the proposal on the mirror with a smiley face. Sarah's parents had always wanted to host a wedding at their lake house on Lake Minnetonka, so they happily offered the space to their daughter and fiancé. By renting all of the equipment for their big day, Sarah and Mark were able to customize and plan their outdoor soiree with the help of family and friends. Though there was no official color scheme, the couple ended up with elements of orange, yellow and turquoise seen in the floral decorations and fashion accessories. As a special touch, Sarah and Mark asked their two close friends to sing a song that they had written for their ceremony. With the food catered by Sassy Spoon, the guests raved about the local and organic meats and produce served through the cocktail hour and reception. Lemon raspberry and triple chocolate wedding cake from Buttercream Bakery brought a nice sweet tooth to the evening. "We even had a hot dog cart arrive toward the end of the party which was a huge hit," says Sarah.
