Carly Ferguson (27 and a 6th grade teacher) and Mike Ferguson (32 and a regional sales manager) met on New Year’s Eve at a mutual friend’s party in Columbus, Ohio. Mike was living in San Francisco at the time, so the couple started a long-distance relationship, traveling back and forth between Ohio and California. After over a year of dating, Mike took Carly back to the place where they met on New Year’s Eve to pop the question. The couple knew they were moving to Austin, Texas for Mike’s job, so it was the perfect city for their country chic wedding. They tied the knot at Barr Mansion & Artisan Ballroom, a farmstead with an old Victorian mansion, ballroom and expansive manicured grounds. Carly’s favorite flowers are sunflowers, so they based the wedding colors on the flower’s energizing yellow and the colors of wildflowers. Following the ceremony, the cocktail hour took place under a sweeping pecan tree with Texas-style fare at sunset followed by an all-organic dinner. Later on, guests enjoyed campfire-style mini s’mores and dancing to the tunes of Joel Giorgio, including musical homage to the couple’s Ohio roots. At the end of the evening, guests were invited to take a sparkler and lined the outside of the mansion for the couple’s send-off. “This was a magical moment for the guests and us as a newly-married couple,” says the bride.

Carly and Mike chose their attire to match the country-chic vibe of the venue. The groomsmen wore gray suits with yellow and gray checkered ties, and Mike chose to stand out with a bow tie.
“Our flowers were inspired by Texas wildflowers, with the focus on the sunflower,” says the bride.

One of Carly’s favorite elements was the antique wooden wagon, which carried her toddler nephew and ring bearer down the aisle. On the back was painted “Here Comes The Bride!”

Carly purchased her Coren Moore dress from a small boutique in Greenwich, Connecticut. “The neatest part of the dress is that the designer sews in the ‘something blue’ to the inside of the gown—your initials and the wedding date,” says the bride.
The cocktail hour took place at sunset under a sweeping pecan tree with specialty cocktails, the “Classy Cowboy” and “Cowgirl Cooler,” Texas beers in galvanized tubs and Texas-style cocktail fare.
Guests had a choice of two specialty cocktails, “His” and “Hers:” the “Classy Cowboy,” bourbon and ginger ale, and the “Cowgirl Cooler,” a mixture of lemonade, sweet tea and vodka. The specialty cocktails were topped off with yellow and gray striped straws.
The couple left black and white polaroid cameras next to their guest book for guests to post photo memories. “The messages became more and more funny as the evening went on!” says Carly.

For dessert, the three tier cake, adorned with burlap and fresh decorative sunflowers, wowed guests with the vanilla chiffon with raspberry mousse and vanilla buttercream frosting.
The guests received small boxes of sunflower seeds and a personal message. Guests could plant the seeds in their gardens when they returned home and remember Carly and Mike’s special day.
