A Celestial-Themed Lakeside Wedding at Watervale Inn in Arcadia, Michigan
A minor misunderstanding made for an unforgettable moment at SarahGriffen Oellerich (29 and a creative director) and Andrew Thomas's (35 and a writer/producer) waterfront wedding overlooking Lower Herring Lake. "We asked my nephew to be our ring bearer, and he initially turned us down because he thought we asked him to be our reindeer," SarahGriffen says. Fortunately, her nephew changed his mind, but on the condition that he could dress up as another creature instead. "That dragon costume was honestly the best part of our ceremony." The Watervale Inn was an obvious choice for the bride, who once worked there, and whose sisters and cousin have also said “I do” on-site. “The owners are like family,” she says. “Andrew locked down our wedding date before we even got engaged!” The bride's untamed bouquet featured peonies, ranunculus, thistles and an abundance of greens. “We wanted our day to represent the universe and the stardust that connects us all,” SarahGriffen says of playing up their heavenly motif with cosmic temporary tattoos and homemade gin fittingly dubbed “Celestial Terrestrial” by the groom. The result brought “everyone we love into a magical space,” she says. Galactic details, including constellation-themed tables, star garlands and a stellar photo booth backdrop, were scattered throughout the tented reception, where guests sipped beer from the local Finback Brewery.
