A Chic, Eclectic DIY Wedding at The Holly Farm in Carmel, California
Every element of Jane Yusim (29 and a TV producer) and Stephen Wong’s (38 and an entertainment attorney) wedding was purposefully planned to make every part of the day feel personalized and meaningful. With the help of planner Erin Moses and their own creativity, the pair pulled off a rustic chic affair with plenty of DIY touches.
Jane and Stephen both love Carmel, Calif. and grew up visiting the city with their families, so when it came time to choose a location for their “I do’s,” the seaside city topped the list. “Being outside was important to us and although we thought we wanted to get married overlooking the water, the minute we stepped foot onto Holly Farm’s property, we got chills down our spines and felt an electric connection that was undeniable,” says Jane. “This was our venue!”
From there the decor evolved naturally, with the couple combining their minimalist and crafty sides with the venue’s subtle rustic flair to create a wedding day style that was eclectically chic. Long farm tables, burlap linens and vintage accents like brass candlesticks, books and tinted glass vases lent a rustic flair to the decor, while DIY elements like teacup escort cards that doubled as candles, chalkboard table names speaking to the couple’s “firsts” together, framed wedding photos of their friends and family members and more allowed Jane and Stephen to weave a pieces of themselves throughout the day. “On each chair during the ceremony we left small glassine bags filled with paper hearts in memory of Stephen’s brother who passed,” says Jane. “We asked guests to through their hearts up into the sky in loving memory. Each piece of decor was symbolic and meaningful to us.”
A tip for the taking from Jane and Stephen: “The best advice we got and really listened to was to stay together during the wedding. If you want to say hi to your guests or go get a drink, go together. A wedding is such a magical event and it truly flies by in an instant — you want to be together to share and remember all of those great moments together.”
